The Definitive LongHorn Gluten-Free Menu Guide For 2025

Becky avatarPublished by | Last updated 7th August, 2025

For a worry-free steakhouse experience, our LongHorn gluten-free menu guide aims to reveal which steaks, proteins, sides, and sizzling specialties are safe!

The thought of hearty steaks, loaded sides, and buttery sauces is downright tempting, but to celiacs like me, there lies a potential gluten minefield with every steakhouse’s menu. 🥩🔥🍖

LongHorn is no different, with toasted buns, flour-thickened pan sauces, and shared fryers, it’s filled with hidden gluten traps, but if you’re eager to move past that, it’s not all bad. 👉🚫🌾

longhorn gluten-free

Sure, a few of their appetizers, some of their steaks, their entire desserts menu, and a few bits here and there on LongHorn’s menu are filled with gluten, and it’s definitely not safe for celiacs.

However, I’m surprised to find that there is a pretty decent selection of gluten-sensitive dishes that you could safely order at LongHorn Steakhouse, while others can be specially modified!

Be it their soups, salads, seafood, poultry, lunch plates, ribs, chops, sides, and best of all, their iconic and signature steaks, there’s a good variety of gluten-friendly meals to pick from. 🍗

So, without further ado, let’s break apart LongHorn Steakhouse’s menu to see what’s safe for you to order, what you should avoid, and how to customize certain items to make them safe.

Disclaimer

With that said, it is worth bearing in mind that even though LongHorn Steakhouse features a gluten-sensitive menu, LongHorn themselves don’t have gluten-free kitchens and facilities. ❗

This is something they make absolutely clear, even though they are keen to meet the needs of folks who have “gluten-restricted” diets, like celiacs, or if you have gluten intolerance. ⛔🌾

By not having dedicated gluten-free kitchen spaces, cross-contamination may occur with their use of shared equipment and prep stations, including fryers, grills, tongs, ladles, and more. 🍴

Basically, this means that even those menu items that don’t feature any wheat or gluten in their recipes and ingredients might still pick up trace gluten through other glutenous items.

Plus, LongHorn Steakhouse doesn’t test their menu items, recipes, and ingredients to properly meet the FDA’s super strict <20 ppm threshold for something to be considered “gluten-free”.

It’s probably why LongHorn themselves, and it is always safer for you to approach it this way, label some of their dishes as “gluten-sensitive”, which you can also treat as “gluten-friendly”.

With a lack of 100% gluten-free items and possible cross-contamination risks, it’s also a good idea to inform your server if you’re avoiding gluten, and they might take extra precautions.

LongHorn Allergen Policy (Gluten-Free)

On that note, at least LongHorn makes it rather easy for you to filter out their menu and then suss out all the foods and drinks that you should be avoiding, starting with their website. 🌐

Once you’re on the homepage of the official LongHorn Steakhouse website, scroll all the way down and click or tap on the “Nutrition” link to open up the official LongHorn nutrition page.

This is where you’ll get a bit more info and disclaimers, but what we’re really looking for here would be the official LongHorn Nutrition & Allergen Guide, and clicking this opens a PDF file.

This pretty handy PDF file contains 3 different things in one:

  • Nutritional Guide – In this section of the PDF, you’ll find a detailed breakdown of the nutrition data for every single menu item, which is great if you’re highly conscious about your diet and your daily intake. Here, you’ll find out what’s inside each menu item, like cholesterol, protein, calories, sugar, fiber, fat, carbs, sodium, and loads more, allowing you to tally them all up.
  • Gluten-Sensitive Menu – The next section is where you will find LongHorn Steakhouse’s gluten-sensitive menu, which is a godsend for celiacs, and for folks who are highly sensitive to gluten, or if you’re gluten intolerant. This section includes a list of all the menu items that are naturally gluten-sensitive, or special modifications to regular dishes to make them gluten-sensitive.
  • Allergen Guide – Finally, we have the allergen guide section, which is where LongHorn will list all the major allergens that might be included in each menu item, which is a nice way to filter their menu if you’re allergic to anything. For instance, as a celiac, I’d just avoid any item there that is marked as containing “Wheat” and “Gluten” allergens, since that’s what I can’t eat.

Oh, and speaking of the allergen guide, I also like that LongHorn includes a bit more attention to detail than most do when creating this list, including a couple of really nice touches:

  • First up, LongHorn makes it clear if a particular menu item’s method of preparation involves a risk of cross-contamination, such as being tossed in a shared grill surface or being thrown into a fryer with shared fryer oil (which LongHorn claims is soybean oil). So, be mindful that even if a specific item is naturally free of wheat and gluten, cross-contact might infect it with gluten.
  • On top of this, it’s neat to see that LongHorn’s allergen guide makes it really easy to know if a particular menu item contains a specific allergen (where it is marked with “Y”), or if you could have it modified to be gluten-sensitive (marked with “M”, for “modified”), and get any gluten components in that dish removed or swapped out, like ordering a burger with no wheat buns.

✅ Fire-Grilled T-Bone
✅ The LongHorn Porterhouse
✅ Kansas City Strip
✅ The LongHorn 22 oz.
❌ Chop Steak

⚠️ 7 oz. LongHorn Salmon with 8 ct. Redrock Grilled Shrimp
⚠️ 9 oz. Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Half-Rack Baby Back Ribs
✅ 6 oz. Flo’s Filet with 4 oz. Lobster Tail

Just to be extra sure, let’s check out what each of these steaks and meats is made of:

Flo’s Filet: A 6-oz center-cut filet seasoned simply with salt, pepper, some garlic, and it’s then flame-grilled to a tender finish. It contains no wheat ingredients and is pretty safe for gluten-sensitive diners and celiacs alike.

Outlaw Ribeye: A 12-oz ribeye hand-seasoned with coarse salt, cracked black pepper, and a bit of garlic, which is then grilled to a caramelized crust without any wheat flour-based coatings or additives, making this another safe dish.

Renegade Sirloin: A 6-oz center-cut sirloin brushed with garlic oil and cracked pepper, grilled without wheat-based marinades or rubs to ensure a lean, flavorful steak, which is safe if you have a severe gluten intolerance.

Ribeye: A hand-cut ribeye steak, generously seasoned and then grilled without any gluten ingredients or dustings, offering rich marbling and a naturally gluten-sensitive preparation, without any further modifications.

New York Strip: A 12-oz strip steak seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and garlic, grilled to deliver a bold sear. There are no wheat flour-thickened sauces or breaded crusts used here, once again making this a celiac-safe option.

Fire-Grilled T-Bone: A 20-oz T-bone steak seasoned with salt and pepper, and it’s then fire-grilled for a smoky char. It’s also prepared without any wheat-based ingredients or batters, creating a safe pick if you’re gluten intolerant.

The LongHorn Porterhouse: A generous cut combining tender filet and robust strip, seasoned and flame-grilled without gluten components, which is ideal for gluten-sensitive guests, or if you’re highly sensitive to wheat and gluten.

Chop Steak: A seasoned ground-beef patty smothered in onion gravy that’s thickened with wheat flour, which contains gluten in both the beef mixture binder and the gravy, making it unsafe for coeliacs.

LongHorn Steak Tips: Marinated sirloin tips grilled with a sweet soy-based glaze containing wheat soy sauce and a flour slurry in the marinade, which is best avoided by gluten-sensitive diners and celiacs.

LongHorn Churrasco Steak: Flank steak marinated in a citrus-garlic sauce that uses a flour-based thickener and soy, and it’s then grilled to perfection, but since it contains wheat in the marinade, avoid it if you’re a celiac.

Chicken Fried Steak: Tenderized cube steak hand-dipped in wheat-flour batter, deep-fried, and it’s then topped with creamy country gravy thickened with flour, though it’s fully unsafe for any celiac and gluten-free diners.

Kansas City Strip: A 16-oz strip steak seasoned simply with salt, pepper, and garlic, flame-grilled without any wheat ingredients or coatings, thus making it naturally gluten-sensitive, and it’s also quite safe as-is.

The LongHorn 22 oz.: A massive T-bone steak seasoned with just salt, pepper, and garlic, fire-grilled to order without any wheat-based batters or breading, and it’s thus gluten-sensitive by recipe; perfect for hungry celiacs!

6 oz. Renegade Sirloin with 8 ct. Redrock Grilled Shrimp: Sirloin is seasoned and grilled without gluten. The shrimp arrive tossed in garlic butter with no wheat thickeners, so no mods needed to make this celiac-safe.

7 oz. LongHorn Salmon with 8 ct. Redrock Grilled Shrimp: The salmon is seasoned and grilled gluten-free, though the shrimp is marinated in a sauce that may contain wheat, so make sure to order them plain and grilled without the sauce.

9 oz. Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Half-Rack Baby Back Ribs: Chicken comes with a wheat-based breadcrumb crust, but you could request the “no crust” option to make this dish gluten-sensitive. Otherwise, the ribs use a dry rub free of gluten.

6 oz. Flo’s Filet with 4 oz. Lobster Tail: Pairs the tender filet from earlier with a chilled lobster tail, which is both prepared without wheat or gluten ingredients, so no modifications would be needed to make this gluten-sensitive.

Overall, it’s a good start for celiacs who are dining out at LongHorn Steakhouse, with quite a lot of gluten-sensitive and celiac-safe options among their steaks and grilled meats. 🍗🍤🦞

Appetizers

Elsewhere, LongHorn’s appetizers offer everything from creamy dips to crunchy wraps, but it’s sad to see that most rely on wheat-based batters, crusts, and gluten components. 🧀🍄🌯

❌ Parmesan Crusted Spinach Dip
❌ Wild West Shrimp
❌ White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms
❌ Spicy Chicken Bites
❌ Texas Tonion
❌ Firecracker Chicken Wraps
⚠️ Seasoned Steakhouse Wings
❌ Texas Brisket Queso
❌ Texas Brisket Nachos
❌ Surf & Surf Dip

For context, let’s take a closer look at what makes these appetizers such a danger for celiacs:

Parmesan Crusted Spinach Dip: Creamy spinach and artichoke blend topped with a crunchy Parmesan-breadcrumb crust, but as the breadcrumbs and topping mix contain wheat flour, that makes this entire dip unsafe for gluten-free diners.

Wild West Shrimp: Jumbo shrimp dredged in seasoned wheat-flour batter, deep-fried, then tossed in a smoky chipotle barbecue glaze, though both the batter and the shared fryer oil cross-contamination would pose a serious gluten risk.

White Cheddar Stuffed Mushrooms: Button mushrooms filled with white cheddar and cream cheese, and then baked under a panko-and-breadcrumb topping. However, the wheat-based coating makes this unsafe for celiacs.

Spicy Chicken Bites: Bite-sized chicken breast pieces marinated, coated in a seasoned wheat flour, and fried, then tossed in spicy buffalo sauce. Unfortunately, the batter and the shared prep surfaces introduce lots of gluten.

Texas Tonion: Thick-cut onion petals coated in a beer-and-wheat-flour batter and deep-fried until golden, served with ranch dressing. This dish contains wheat batter, so avoid this if you need to maintain a strict gluten-free diet.

Firecracker Chicken Wraps: Crispy chicken strips, shredded slaw, and creamy ranch wrapped in a wheat tortilla, but both the tortilla and the breading contain gluten, which makes the entire wrap unsafe if you’re a celiac or are gluten intolerant.

Seasoned Steakhouse Wings: Chicken wings seasoned with a dry blend of herbs and spices (no wheat ingredients), and it’s then fried, though the risk of cross-contact in shared fryers means that you should order this with some caution in mind.

Texas Brisket Queso: Melted cheese and shredded brisket studded with jalapeños, served with flatbread, though the queso base uses a flour-thickener and the flatbread is wheat-based, so it’s off-limits to celiacs like me.

Texas Brisket Nachos: Tortilla chips layered with chopped brisket, cheese, and queso, but the queso contains wheat flour, and the chips are often fried alongside glutenous items, so avoid this dish entirely.

Surf & Surf Dip: Warm shrimp-and-crab dip grilled tableside, and it’s served with flatbread. Though the dip itself is cooked without wheat or gluten ingredients, it’s paired with bread before being prepped on shared surfaces, rendering it unsafe.

Sadly, unlike LongHorn’s steaks and grilled meats, their appetizers appear to be a bad start if you’re a celiac, as most of them are brimming with hazardous wheat and gluten. 🥙🌮🥗

Chicken, Seafood, Ribs, Chops, & More

By land and sea, LongHorn’s selection of chicken, seafood, ribs, and chops is delectable, and to top it off, many of them are naturally gluten-sensitive and celiac-friendly, too. 🍔🍗🥪

⚠️ Parmesan Crusted Chicken
❌ Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders
❌ Chicken Fried Chicken
✅ Lemon Garlic Chicken
⚠️ LongHorn Salmon
✅ Red Rock Grilled Shrimp
✅ Lobster Tail
✅ Baby Back Ribs
✅ Cowboy Pork Chops
⚠️ Half-Pound Steakhouse Cheeseburger
❌ Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich
❌ Chop Steak
✅ Fire Grilled Lamb Chops

Just so we’re not missing anything, let’s double-check these to make extra sure they’re safe:

Parmesan Crusted Chicken: A chicken breast coated in garlic-parmesan breadcrumbs and baked, before being topped with mozzarella. Just make sure you remember to order them without the breadcrumb crust to enjoy the herb-seasoned chicken without wheat.

Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders: Strips of chicken dipped in seasoned wheat flour batter and fried in shared oil. Both the coating and the fryer cross-contact make these unsafe for celiacs and for folks with gluten intolerance.

Chicken Fried Chicken: Tenderized chicken breast hand-dipped in wheat-flour batter, fried, and smothered in country gravy thickened with wheat flour, which makes this completely off-limits for gluten-free diets and celiacs.

Lemon Garlic Chicken: A grilled chicken breast marinated in lemon juice, garlic, and herbs, then flame-grilled. There are no wheat ingredients, but it’s naturally gluten-sensitive, and it can also be served celiac-safe without modification.

LongHorn Salmon: Salmon fillet brushed with a honey-lime glaze and wood-grilled. Now the standard marinade may contain wheat thickeners, so be sure to order it with no marinade to keep it gluten-friendly and celiac-safe.

Red Rock Grilled Shrimp: Eight jumbo shrimp seasoned with garlic, lemon, and paprika, grilled on skewers. There’s no breading or wheat-based sauces, making this pretty safe for celiacs.

Lobster Tail: Chilled cold-water lobster tail steamed tableside and served with drawn butter. Prepared without any wheat ingredients, so no modifications are needed to make it safe.

Baby Back Ribs: Half-rack of slow-cooked ribs basted with a tangy barbecue sauce that uses no flour-based thickeners. It’s naturally gluten-sensitive when you confirm the sauce is wheat-free.

Cowboy Pork Chops: Two bone-in pork chops seasoned with garlic, paprika, and black pepper, wood-grilled. Free from wheat ingredients, it’s also perfectly safe for celiacs like me, too.

Half-Pound Steakhouse Cheeseburger: Half-pound beef patty with lettuce, tomato, onion, and some cheese. It’s served on a wheat bun by default, but you can order this without the wheat-based burger bun to make it gluten-sensitive.

Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich: A deep-fried piece of chicken that’s dipped in wheat-flour batter, alongside lettuce, tomato, onion, and sauce. However, unlike the cheeseburger from earlier, even if you order this bun-less, the wheat-flour batter makes it a no-go.

Chop Steak: Ground beef patty topped with onion gravy that has been thickened with wheat flour. Both the patty binder and the gravy contain gluten, so avoid this dish entirely if you’re highly intolerant to gluten.

Fire Grilled Lamb Chops: Four lamb chops seasoned with rosemary, garlic, and black pepper, char-grilled. No wheat-based marinades or coatings, and it is naturally gluten-sensitive and ready to serve to celiacs.

Apart from the few options here that’re off-limits to celiacs, it’s nice to see that at least you’re not going to be left wanting for options among the many protein dishes at LongHorn. 🍖🥩

Salads & Soups

On the other hand, LongHorn’s variety of salads and soups offers a lighter fare and comforting bowls, and with the exception of a few here, a lot of these are safe for celiacs, too. 🥗🍲🥣

⚠️ Mixed Green Side Salad
⚠️ Caesar Side Salad with Caesar Dressing

✅ Shrimp & Lobster Chowder
❌ French Onion Soup

Let’s check out what these hearty and mouthwatering bowls of soups and salads are made of:

Caesar Side Salad with Caesar Dressing: Crisp romaine tossed in some Caesar dressing with a bit of Parmesan, and remember to request no croutons, separate prep bowls, and confirm the dressing contains no gluten-based emulsifiers for a safe salad.

Strawberry Pecan Salad with Dressing: Fresh spinach and spring mix topped with some sliced strawberries, candied pecans, and crumbled feta, and it’s then served with a lovely raspberry vinaigrette made without wheat ingredients, making it naturally gluten-sensitive.

Grilled Chicken & Strawberry Salad with Vinaigrette: Spring mix with grilled chicken breast, fresh strawberries, goat cheese, and sliced almonds, and then drizzled in a citrus vinaigrette, with no wheat components when ordered as is.

7-Pepper Sirloin Salad: Sliced sirloin with mixed greens, roasted red peppers, onions, and some Parmesan, but remember to omit croutons and request separate salad prep to avoid cross-contamination, as everything else here is naturally gluten-free.

Farm Fresh Field Greens with Crispy Chicken Tenders: Mixed greens topped with hand-breaded chicken tenders and shredded cheese, though the chicken’s wheat-based batter and the shared fryer cross-contact make this unsafe for celiacs.

Farm Fresh Field Greens with Salmon: Mixed greens with wood-grilled salmon, avocado, and grape tomatoes, though remember to omit the croutons and ask for separate prep bowls to ensure that no trace gluten carries over from other salads.

Southwest Chicken Tortilla Soup: Spicy broth loaded with shredded chicken, corn, black beans, and tortilla strips, though remember to omit the tortilla strips and ask for separate prep bowls to ensure that no trace gluten carries over from other salads.

Loaded Potato Soup: Creamy potato base with bacon, cheddar, and chives, which is also then thickened without using any wheat flour, making it a hearty, gluten-sensitive choice of soup.

Shrimp & Lobster Chowder: Rich seafood chowder with chunks of shrimp, lobster, potatoes, and vegetables, which is prepped without wheat-based thickeners for a celiac-safe bowl.

French Onion Soup: Caramelized onions in beef broth topped with a bread-and-cheese crouton that contains wheat flour, making this completely off-limits for gluten-free diets and celiacs.

Another rock-solid menu from LongHorn, and aside from the couple of soups and salads there that contain wheat and gluten components, most of the rest can be ordered safely. 🍆🥦🍅

Sides

Whether it’s fresh veggies or comforting starches, LongHorn’s sides menu offers a neat way to round out your meal, but watch the cheesy and fried options for any hidden gluten. 🥔🧀🍠

✅ Fire Roasted Corn
✅ Fresh Steamed Asparagus
❌ Steakhouse Mac & Cheese
✅ Crispy Brussels Sprouts

✅ Sweet Potato with Cinnamon-Sugar & Butter

Just so we’re absolutely sure about where we stand on this, let’s take a deep dive into them:

Fire Roasted Corn: Corn on the cob brushed with a garlic-herb butter and then roasted over an open flame. There are no wheat ingredients or cross-contact, so it’s naturally gluten-sensitive.

Fresh Steamed Asparagus: Tender asparagus spears steamed and lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. It’s prepared without sauces or batters, also making this quite safe for celiacs.

Steakhouse Mac & Cheese: Elbow pasta tossed in a cheddar-and-cream sauce thickened with wheat flour, and then baked under a cheese crust, which contains gluten, so avoid this one.

Crispy Brussels Sprouts: Halved sprouts flash-fried until golden, then tossed in a sweet-and-spicy glaze. There’s no breading or flour-based sauces, and it’s very safe when ordered as is.

Plain Baked Potato: Idaho potato baked until fluffy, served with butter on the side. There are no wheat ingredients, making this dish fully gluten-friendly and safe for celiacs.

Loaded Baked Potato: Baked potato topped with sour cream, cheddar cheese, and some crispy bacon. All the toppings are free of gluten ingredients, making it safe for gluten-sensitive diners.

Mashed Potatoes: Creamy mashed potatoes whipped with butter and milk. There’s no gravy or flour thickeners added, thus making it naturally gluten-free and safe if you’re gluten intolerant.

Plain Sweet Potato: Sweet potato baked whole and served plain. There aren’t any wheat-based toppings or sauces, making this quite ideal for a gluten-sensitive side and for celiacs like me.

Sweet Potato with Cinnamon-Sugar & Butter: Baked sweet potato that’s been brushed with a bit of butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, with no flour or wheat components, either.

Fresh Steamed Broccoli: Broccoli florets steamed and seasoned with salt and pepper. There’s no wheat-based batter or sauces, but as always, watch out for any cross-contamination.

Seasoned French Fries: Hand-cut fries tossed in LongHorn’s signature spice blend and fried. No batter or wheat ingredients are used, but confirm that the fryer is dedicated or ask for fresh oil.

Seasoned Rice Pilaf: Fluffy rice cooked with onions, celery, and carrots in a seasoned broth. No wheat thickeners are used, and it’s quite safe for gluten-sensitive guests and celiacs like me.

Freshly Baked Bread: Warm yeast rolls made with enriched wheat flour and baked on shared trays. It sadly contains gluten, making it completely off-limits, with no gluten-free alternative.

Fried Okra: Okra coated in a seasoned cornmeal-and-wheat-flour batter, and it’s then fried. Since it contains wheat in the batter, avoid this entirely if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Crispy Texas Okra: Breaded okra pieces fried until crispy. Once again, the batter uses wheat flour and shared fryer oil, making this dish completely unsafe if you’re gluten intolerant.

Grilled Mushrooms: Button and cremini mushrooms tossed in garlic butter and grilled. No wheat ingredients are used, however, so this one’s also naturally gluten-sensitive.

While most of these sides are naturally gluten-sensitive, it’s always worth bearing in mind any potential risk of cross-contamination during the cooking and prepping process, too! 🌽🍟🍚

Kid’s Meals

For all the young ones dining out at LongHorn, you can also pick and choose from a variety of tasty kids’ meals, but remember to watch out for the glutenous breading and pasta. 🍔🍟

⚠️ Cheeseburger
❌ Chicken Tenders
✅ Grilled Chicken Tenders
✅ Kid’s Sirloin Steak
❌ Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
✅ 1% Milk Chug
⚠️ Seasoned French Fries
⚠️ Kid’s Grilled Chicken Salad

For comparison with the others here, let’s take a closer look at these kids’ meals to learn more:

Cheeseburger: A junior beef patty with American cheese, lettuce, and tomato on a wheat bun, but you can order it with no bun, so you could enjoy the burger patty without hidden gluten.

Chicken Tenders: White-meat chicken strips hand-dipped in seasoned wheat-flour batter and fried in shared oil, but it contains gluten in the coating and cross-contact, so avoid it entirely.

Grilled Chicken Tenders: Marinated chicken strips grilled plain without any breading or wheat-based marinades, and it’s also cooked on a clean grill to make this naturally gluten-sensitive.

Kid’s Sirloin Steak: A 6-oz sirloin steak seasoned simply with salt and pepper, grilled to order without batters or sauces, and it’s prepared gluten-free by recipe; no modifications needed!

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese: Elbow macaroni in a cheese sauce thickened with a flour-based roux, and the pasta is made from wheat, thus making it completely unsafe for gluten-free diets.

1% Milk Chug: Factory-sealed carton of 1% milk, with no wheat ingredients and virtually zero cross-contamination risk, which would make it a reliably gluten-free beverage for celiacs.

Seasoned French Fries: Hand-cut fries tossed in LongHorn’s signature seasoning and fried without batter, but confirm they’re cooked in fresh oil to minimize cross-contamination.

Kid’s Grilled Chicken Salad: Mixed greens topped with grilled chicken and shredded cheese, but remember to omit the croutons and ask for separate prep bowls to ensure that no trace gluten is carried over from other salads.

Not a bad continuation from earlier, then, with another really nice showing from LongHorn on how to do gluten-sensitive menus right, though be wary of any cross-contamination. 🥩🍖

Desserts

For a sweet finisher, LongHorn’s desserts menu is full of indulgent treats, but unfortunately, all of them contain wheat or gluten items, making these desserts off-limits for celiacs. 🎂🍰🧁

❌ The Cheesecake
❌ Chocolate Stampede
❌ Strawberries & Cream Shortcake
❌ Molten Lava Cake

Just in case we’re missing anything, let’s break these desserts apart to see what they’re about:

The Cheesecake: A rich, creamy classic on a graham-cracker crust made with wheat flour, but this naturally contains gluten in both the crust, not to mention any possible stabilizers.

Chocolate Stampede: A towering sundae featuring chocolate brownie pieces, hot fudge, ice cream, and whipped cream, though the brownie base is made from wheat flour.

Strawberries & Cream Shortcake: Fluffy shortcake biscuits layered with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, but once again, the biscuits are baked from enriched wheat flour.

Molten Lava Cake: Warm chocolate cake with a gooey center served with vanilla ice cream, though the cake batter uses wheat flour and shares ovens with other baked goods.

Suffice it to say, if you’re expecting some dessert, skip LongHorn completely and maybe head somewhere else once you’re done to get some otherworldly savory gluten-free treats! 🍧🍨

Drinks

Like most other restaurants, LongHorn’s beverages, everything from fountain sodas to bottled waters and fresh-made lemonades, are usually naturally gluten-free and celiac-safe! 🧃🍹🥤

✅ Mountain Valley Sparkling Bottled Water
✅ Mountain Valley Bottled Water
✅ Coke
✅ Diet Coke
✅ Coke Zero Sugar
✅ Sprite
✅ Pibb Extra
✅ Strawberry Lemonade
✅ Raspberry Lemonade

✅ Tea, Unsweet
✅ Tea, Sweet
✅ Raspberry Iced Tea
✅ Peach Iced Tea
✅ Coffee
✅ Decaf Coffee
✅ Hot Tea
✅ Apple Juice
✅ Orange Juice
✅ Cranberry Juice
✅ Chocolate Milk
✅ Milk

But just to make 100% sure that these are safe, let’s take a quick peek at each beverage:

Fountain Sodas (Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero Sugar, Sprite, Pibb Extra): Self-serve fountain sodas that contain no gluten. For extra safety, you could ask the staff to wipe the drinks nozzle before you pour, in case of any cross-contamination.

Fresh-Made Lemonades (Strawberry, Raspberry, Mango, Minute Maid): Whether it’s hand-squeezed or bottled, lemonades contain no wheat ingredients. If dispensed from a fountain, you could also request a clean nozzle to minimize cross-contact.

Iced Teas & Hot Teas (Unsweet, Sweet, Raspberry, Peach): Brewed teas and iced teas use pure tea leaves or extracts with no gluten additives. For extra safety, you can ask that the spigot be rinsed between flavors to avoid any syrup carryover.

Coffee & Decaf Coffee: Freshly brewed, 100% Arabica coffee contains no gluten. For espresso-based drinks, you can request a fresh portafilter or milk pitcher to reduce cross-contact risks.

Bottled Water & Juices (Mountain Valley, Apple, Orange, Cranberry): Factory-sealed bottles and cartons that are all inherently gluten-free with virtually zero cross-contact risk, too.

Dairy & Specialty Drinks (Chocolate Milk, Milk): Sealed cartons of milk and chocolate milk carry no gluten. If poured from a dispenser, confirm that it has been sanitized between uses.

Predictably, all of LongHorn’s beverages are naturally gluten-free, but it’s always a good idea to be extra cautious with possible cross-contact while your drinks are being prepped. 🍵☕️

To Sum Up

On the whole, LongHorn Steakhouse is a pleasant surprise, as I’d expected that they, like most other steakhouses, aren’t going to cater much to celiacs and folks who are gluten intolerant.

However, looking more closely at their menu reveals that quite a lot of options, including their signature items and plenty more hearty dishes in between, are all gluten-sensitive. 🥩

Many of their steaks, grilled meats, proteins, ribs, seafood, sides, salads, soups, and even a lot of their kids’ menu are naturally gluten-sensitive, or could be made one with slight changes.

I also have to give extra credit to LongHorn for having a dedicated gluten-sensitive menu, and not only is it abundant with options, but modifying otherwise unsafe dishes is pretty easy. 🍟🥗

Of course, you should always be extra cautious when it comes to cross-contamination, though with so many gluten-sensitive items and well-trained staff, it’s not as big of an issue. 🍖🍔

At least, not unlike other restaurants, and though LongHorn’s appetizers and desserts are off-limits to celiacs, the rest of their menu has everything you’d want, which is always nice to see.

Frequently Asked Questions

As I was working on this LongHorn gluten-free menu guide, I came across a few interesting questions on social media and forums, so I thought I’d give answering them a go here:

What items are safe on the LongHorn Steakhouse gluten-free menu?

Most of LongHorn’s signature steaks (i.e., Flo’s Filet, Outlaw Ribeye, Renegade Sirloin, Ribeye, New York Strip, Fire-Grilled T-Bone, and the LongHorn Porterhouse) are gluten-sensitive. Their Seafood options like Lobster Tail and Red Rock Grilled Shrimp (plain & grilled), and mains such as Lemon Garlic Chicken and Cowboy Pork Chops also qualify as being gluten-sensitive, too.

How can I customize LongHorn dishes to be gluten-free?

Look for customizable items in the gluten-sensitive menu that could be modified to make them gluten-sensitive. For example, you could order the Parmesan Crusted Chicken with no crust, or order a cheeseburger with no bun. For salads, you could also order them without croutons and ask for separate prep bowls, and confirm dressings that contain no wheat-based emulsifiers.

Does LongHorn Steakhouse have a dedicated gluten-sensitive menu?

Yes! Longhorn’s Nutrition & Allergen Guide includes a gluten-sensitive menu section listing all of the dishes that are either naturally gluten-sensitive or could be modified to become gluten-sensitive. Other than browsing the web, you could also ask the local LongHorn staff for a copy for reference while you’re ordering, and make sure to also remind the staff about your dietary restrictions or any other needs.

How does LongHorn handle cross-contamination for gluten-free diners?

When you inform your server about your celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivity, LongHorn staff members take extra precautions, such as using fresh gloves, cleaning prep surfaces, and avoiding shared fryers or grills for your order. For fountain drinks or iced teas, you can ask for clean nozzles, and for coffee or espresso, ask for a fresh portafilter or milk pitcher to minimize trace gluten exposure.

Are LongHorn’s side dishes and desserts gluten-free?

Most of their sides, such as the Fire Roasted Corn, Steamed Asparagus, Mashed Potatoes, Seasoned Rice Pilaf, and Loaded Baked Potato, are gluten-free. Fries are gluten-free by recipe, but ask for fresh fryer oil, just in case there’s cross-contamination with the oil.
