The Ultimate Chipotle Gluten-Free Menu Guide For 2025
Whether you’re trying to build your own bowl, salad, or tacos, our Chipotle gluten-free guide is here to walk you through which ones are celiac-safe!
Mexican cuisine can be quite tough when it comes to accommodating gluten-free diets, for me, as a celiac, or for any of you who may have severe gluten allergies. 🌯🥙
However, some Mexican restaurants, eateries, and fast food chains go beyond the call of duty, such as Chipotle, which has since become a celiac’s dream if you love Mexican food! 🥗🌽
Of course, there are some potential landmines that you need to avoid, like their flour tortillas, but if you love Mexican-style bowls, salads, and tacos, you’ll still find some great stuff to love!
Chipotle has made a name for itself with responsibly sourced meats, beans, rice, veggies, and salsas, and nearly every ingredient on the menu is naturally free of wheat, barley, and rye.
Best of all, their legendary burrito bowls or salads, and even more besides, once you swap out the wheat tortilla wrap for a naked bowl or corn-tortilla taco, are pretty friendly to celiacs! 🌮
And, if you’re super unsure, bear in mind that Chipotle’s focus on real, whole ingredients means that you can load up on proteins, guac, or salsa without worrying about hidden gluten. 🌾🚫
So, if you’re craving Mexican food and you aren’t sure about what to safely order without your allergies flaring up, our Chipotle gluten-free guide will walk you through each step of the way!

Disclaimer
Now, I should add a reminder here that even though Chipotle avoids wheat and gluten in most ingredients, except their flour tortillas, they don’t operate a ‘certified’ gluten-free kitchen. ❗
Moreover, all the many fresh ingredients at Chipotle – rice, beans, meats, salsas, and toppings – are handled on shared prep lines, cutting boards, warming stations, and equipment. 🍚🌶️🍅
In other words, there’s very likely to be at least some cross-contamination with flour tortillas or other wheat and gluten-containing items that could occur regularly during normal service. 🌾
As such, for the purposes of our Chipotle gluten-free guide, you really should be treating these individual menu items, including the ‘safe’ ones, more like gluten-friendly or gluten-sensitive.
Remember too that Chipotle doesn’t test any of their menu items to meet the FDA’s strict <20 ppm gluten threshold, so even the safest options here aren’t 100% guaranteed ‘gluten-free’.
I guess what you’ll do next depends on how sensitive your gluten allergies and intolerances really are, but here are some of my personal top tips on how to stay safe:
- Make sure you let the server or kitchen staff know that you have celiac disease, or if you have severe gluten allergies or intolerances.
- With this information in mind, the staff might take extra precautions, like using clean gloves or clean food and drink prep stations.
- Additionally, I’d also recommend keeping up-to-date with Chipotle’s own nutrition and allergen guide to see what you can or can’t safely order.
Chipotle Allergen Policy (Gluten-Free)
Ah, and speaking of, one of the best resources that celiacs could refer to – besides this Chipotle gluten-free guide, of course – is Chipotle’s website and what you can find there:
- First off, Chipotle has a super handy Nutrition Calculator, where you can select and build your meals, such as burritos, quesadillas, tacos, salads, and more, which includes customizing all the sides or proteins, where the calculator tool will then spit out the relevant nutritional info.
- Besides this, Chipotle also has an Ingredients List page, where you can read up and learn more about the 53 different fresh ingredients that Chipotle uses to build each meal, and if you pair it with that calculator, you’re able to get a neat picture of how much nutrition you’re consuming.
- Last but not least, and most useful for celiacs like me, or folks with severe gluten allergies, will be to check the Chipotle allergen menu, where Chipotle will mark down every single one of their ingredients with one of four key allergens, including ‘gluten’, which is what we’re after!
- This ought to let you easily filter down Chipotle’s entire menu to see what you can or can’t eat safely, and you could also make use of the Special Diets section of that page, just in case your personal diet choices accept only vegan, vegetarian, or keto ingredients (among others, too).
There are a couple of other handy things that you could find, bookmark, or download from their website, such as Chipotle’s Food Safety page, highlighting how they keep their stuff safe. 😷
This includes a huge breakdown of how they manage their suppliers, how they support farmer groups, various in-restaurant safety procedures, wellness checks, and all the tech they use.
Aside from that, there’s the Chipotle Nutrition Facts PDF file too, which provides even more nutritional breakdowns and information per menu item, in tandem with the earlier calculator.
So, with that out of the way, let’s guide you through the highlights of the Chipotle gluten free menu, as well as some very handy tips on what celiacs like us can safely order at Chipotle! 🌮🥙🌯
Burrito
First up, we get to check out the iconic Chipotle gluten-free build-your-own burritos, either in a bowl or wrapped up in a flour tortilla, but of course, the latter is definitely dangerous for celiacs!
As I mentioned earlier, every single filling at Chipotle is naturally gluten-free by recipe, but the flour tortilla (or any double wrap) contains wheat and gluten, so be sure to avoid them. 🌯🥗

❌ Double Wrap with Tortilla
❌ Tortilla on the Side
That said, let’s break down each of these fillings and ingredients to see how they all stack up in my Chipotle gluten-free shortlist:
Burrito Wrap (Flour Tortilla) / Double Wrap / Tortilla on the Side: Made from enriched wheat flour, so avoid this if you need your meals to be strictly gluten-free.
Proteins (Chipotle Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Beef Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas): 100% gluten-free by recipe, but they’re seasoned and cooked on shared grills, so request a fresh spoon or even a glove change if you’re very sensitive to gluten.
Veggie (Fajita Vegetables): Peppers and onions sautéed in oil and citrus juice, with no gluten ingredients.
Rice (White, Brown): Flavored with lime and cilantro, and it’s naturally gluten-free.
Beans (Black, Pinto): Seasoned with spices and salt, which is also gluten-free by recipe.
Guacamole: Fresh avocado, lime, cilantro, onion, and jalapeño, and it’s also gluten-free, but they are scooped from a shared container, so there’s a risk of cross-contamination.
Salsas (Fresh Tomato, Roasted Chili-Corn, Tomatillo-Green, Tomatillo-Red): All fruit- and vegetable-based with spices, which are gluten-free, though the ladles share sauce wells.
Sour Cream / Cheese / Romaine Lettuce: Dairy and produce components, which are naturally gluten-free by recipe, so these are safe for celiacs or anyone who’s allergic to gluten.
Queso Blanco: Creamy cheese dip, thickened with corn starch, and they’re also gluten-free by ingredients and recipe, but cross-contact risks at the dispenser might happen.
Chips & Chip Combos: Twice-cooked corn tortilla chips, which are gluten-free by recipe, but they’re fried in shared oil, so be wary of any cross-contamination there, and any combo with guac, queso, or salsa is also safe by ingredients.
Side & Large Side Items: Portions of guac, queso, or salsas served in single-use cups, and it’s gluten-free by recipe and ingredients, though the prep line is shared, so you ought to be a bit careful if you’re highly allergic or intolerant to gluten and wheat.
Of course, for celiacs and folks with severe gluten allergies or intolerances, or if you have a very strict gluten-free diet, order your burrito as a burrito bowl, or with a crispy corn taco. 🌮🥗
Moreover, as you can see here, while each of the fillings is naturally gluten-free, remember to skip the flour tortilla, as it contains wheat flour, and thus, it’s filled with gluten! 🌾📈
On the other hand, there are some ingredients and fillings here, such as the Queso Blanco, that don’t naturally contain wheat or gluten ingredients, but cross-contamination is possible. 😷
Burrito Bowl
Ah, and speaking of… If you want to enjoy the flavor of a burrito, but keep it as celiac-friendly and as gluten-free as possible, you have to check out the Chipotle gluten-free burrito bowl! 🌯🥗
These are basically just burritos inside a salad bowl, minus all the hazardous, wheat-filled flour tortilla wraps – by stacking some rice, beans, proteins, veggies, salsas, and toppings. 🍚🧀🌶️

❌ Tortilla on the Side
With that out of the way, let’s break down these fillings and ingredients to see how they would compare in our Chipotle gluten-free guide:
Proteins (Chipotle Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Beef Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas): All of them are seasoned and cooked without wheat, and they’re gluten-free by recipe. For extra caution, if you’re a celiac or have gluten allergies, be sure to ask for a fresh scoop and glove change.
Veggie (Fajita Vegetables): Sautéed peppers and onions, with no gluten ingredients.
Rice (White, Brown): Flavored with lime and cilantro, and it’s naturally gluten-free.
Beans (Black, Pinto): Simmered with spices, which are also gluten-free by recipe.
Guacamole / Fresh Tomato Salsa / Roasted Chili-Corn Salsa / Tomatillo-Green & Red Salsas: All of them are puree or chopped produce, with no wheat ingredients, though ladles share sauce wells, so there is a decent risk of cross-contamination with wheat or gluten items.
Sour Cream / Cheese / Romaine Lettuce: Dairy and greens, which are gluten-free by recipe.
Queso Blanco: Corn-starch–thickened cheese dip, and the ingredients are all wheat-free, but dispenser cross-contact is possible, so be wary if you’re super sensitive to wheat and gluten, and if you’re a celiac.
Chips & Chip Combos: Twice-cooked corn tortilla chips, and they’re gluten-free by recipe, but they’re then fried in shared fryer oil, which might’ve been used for wheat or gluten items, but any combo with guac, queso, or salsa is typically safe by ingredients.
Sides & Large Sides: Single-use cups of guac, queso, or salsas, and they’re gluten-free by ingredients or recipe, though the prep line is shared, and there’s a risk that it’ll pick up any trace wheat or gluten, even in small amounts.
Tortilla on the Side: Corn or flour? Only the corn tortilla is gluten-free, while the flour is not, given that they’re made from enriched wheat flour. So, be sure that you confirm and double-check the ‘corn’ option before you finalize your order.
Like those Chipotle gluten-free burritos earlier, be sure you remember to skip that flour tortilla, and be mindful of the Queso Blanco, as there’s a decent risk of cross-contamination there. 🌮
Aside from that, even with the other fillings here, which are mostly naturally gluten-free, there could still be a decent chance of cross-contact with wheat or gluten-containing items. 🍲🧀
So, if you’re a celiac or if you have severe gluten allergies, I’d recommend letting the server and staff know, and maybe ask them to swap out to fresh gloves to minimize exposure to gluten.
Lifestyle Bowl
For a more interesting twist on those Chipotle gluten-free burrito bowls, they also have a really nice selection of lifestyle bowls, which are highly curated dishes for online orders only! 🥗🥣
These lifestyle bowls swap out the tortilla for some extra toppings, which are all gluten-free by recipe, too! However, be on the lookout for shared prep surfaces and contaminated utensils.
✅ Balanced Macros Bowl
✅ Wholesome Bowl
✅ Wholesome Bowl with Carnitas
✅ Keto Salad Bowl
✅ High Protein Bowl
✅ Veggie Full Bowl
✅ Plant Powered Bowl
✅ Go Half Veggie Bowl
To be super sure that these lifestyle bowls are properly safe for celiacs and anyone here who’s pretty allergic to gluten, let’s break these down for our Chipotle gluten-free guide:
Balanced Macros Bowl: Romaine lettuce, brown rice, chicken, black beans, fresh tomato salsa, and guacamole, with no wheat or gluten ingredients.
Wholesome Bowl: Romaine, brown rice, black beans, chicken, roasted chili-corn salsa, which are all naturally gluten-free, making it safe for celiacs.
Wholesome Bowl with Carnitas: Same as the Wholesome Bowl, swapping chicken for carnitas, and it’s also gluten-free by recipe, so it’s fairly friendly for anyone who’s allergic to gluten.
Keto Salad Bowl: Romaine, carnitas, cheese, sour cream, fresh tomato salsa, and guacamole, and there are zero grains, as well as all the ingredients being wheat-free.
High Protein Bowl: Romaine, chicken, steak, carnitas, black beans, green salsa, which are packed high with protein, and they’re free of gluten ingredients.
Veggie Full Bowl: Romaine, brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa, and guacamole, which is plant-based and it’s also gluten-free.
Plant Powered Bowl: Romaine, brown rice, Sofritas, black beans, roasted chili-corn salsa, and best of all, it’s 100% vegan and completely free of any wheat.
Go Half Veggie Bowl: Romaine, half portion of chicken, half portion of fajita veggies, brown rice, black beans, and salsa, and celiacs rejoice, as it’s gluten-free by recipe.
Now, as we discussed earlier, when you’re ordering a lifestyle bowl, make sure you remind the server or kitchen staff to use fresh scoops and change out to fresh gloves before ordering! 👩🍳
Doing this prior to assembling the bowl ought to further minimize any cross-contamination, as there’s always a risk of that happening during the prepping and cooking process. 🥗🥙🌯
Quesadilla
Sadly, the Chipotle gluten-free doesn’t fully encompass their quesadillas, as every single one at Chipotle is made out of a flour tortilla, and not a single one is safe for celiacs as-is. 🌮🥙🌯
So, if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly allergic to gluten, avoid the quesadilla entirely, unless it comes with all the fillings, salsas, and sides separately, without that wheat-flour tortilla! 🌾

❌ Tortilla on the Side
For the sake of completeness, let’s break down all of these fillings to see where they’d go in our Chipotle gluten-free guide:
All Quesadillas (any filling): Made with enriched wheat flour tortillas, so it’s completely unsafe for celiacs, or if you have severe gluten allergies and intolerances.
Fillings (Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas, Honey Chicken, Cheese, Fajita Veggies): All of them are gluten-free ingredients by recipe and ingredients, but once wrapped in wheat-flour tortillas, they quickly become unsafe.
Salsas (Fresh Tomato, Roasted Chili-Corn, Tomatillo-Green, Tomatillo-Red): All are vegetable-based, gluten-free by recipe, though the ladles share wells, so it might be worth requesting a fresh spoon if sensitive.
Sour Cream / Guacamole / Chipotle-Honey Vinaigrette: Dairy and avocado-based toppings, which come with no gluten ingredients, but they’re scooped from shared containers, with a slight risk of cross-contamination.
Rice & Beans (White, Brown, Black, Pinto): Seasoned with citrus and spices, which are naturally gluten-free.
Queso Blanco: Corn-starch thickened cheese dip, which is gluten-free by ingredients, but cross-contact risks do appear at the shared dispensers.
Chips & Combinations: Twice-fried corn tortilla chips, and it’s gluten-free by recipe, but they share fryers and fryer oil with wheat-based items, but all the chip and salsa, guac, or queso combos are safe by ingredients.
Sides & Large Sides: Single-use cups of guac, queso, or salsa, which are gluten-free ingredients, though the prep line is shared, so it might be worth being a bit careful if you’re severely gluten intolerant or highly allergic.
Tortilla On The Side: Only the corn tortillas are gluten-free, while the flour tortillas are not. So, make sure you confirm that you’ve ordered the corn tortilla before you finish your order.
In short, the default quesadilla isn’t safe for celiacs, owing to that wheat flour tortilla, so if you crave quesadilla fillings without gluten, consider the Chipotle gluten-free burrito bowls! 🥗
Alternatively, you could also order a crispy corn taco with your favorite protein and veggie mix, and add salsas, guac, and sour cream on top, with no flour tortilla in sight to make it safe. 🌶️
Salad
On the flip side, for folks seeking something positively celiac-friendly, skip the wheat tortilla and start piling them on crisp romaine lettuce to create your own Chipotle gluten-free salad! 🥗

To see why these salads are the perfect choice for our Chipotle gluten-free shortlist, let’s take a closer look at them one by one:
Base (Romaine Lettuce): Crisp greens, which are naturally gluten-free, but they’re washed on shared prep tables, so there’s a slight risk of cross-contamination there.
Proteins (Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas): All of them are gluten-free by recipe, but they’re cooked on shared grills, so make sure to ask for fresh utensils if you are highly sensitive to wheat and gluten.
Veggie (Fajita Vegetables): Sautéed peppers & onions, with no wheat ingredients, and it’s usually pretty safe for celiacs and folks who are severely allergic to gluten.
Grains & Beans (Rice, Beans): White rice, brown rice, black beans, pinto beans, which are all seasoned with citrus and spices, and they’re gluten-free by recipe.
Toppings (Guacamole, Salsas, Sour Cream, Cheese): All of them are gluten-free by ingredients, but the ladles and scoops are shared, so remember to ask for clean utensils to help minimize cross-contamination.
Queso Blanco: Corn-starch–thickened cheese dip, and while the ingredients contain no gluten, the risk of dispenser cross-contact is possible.
Dressings (Chipotle-Honey Vinaigrette): Made with honey, vinegar, and chipotle peppers, and it’s also gluten-free ingredients, but using a shared pump, there might be some cross-contact risks.
Chips & Combos: Corn tortilla chips, which are gluten-free by recipe, but they’re then fried in shared fryer oil (which might’ve been used for wheat dishes), but it’s generally pretty safe if paired with guac or salsa.
Sides & Large Sides: Single-use cups of guac, queso, or salsa, which are gluten-free by recipe, though they’re prepped on a shared line, with some risk of cross-contamination.
Flour Tortilla on the Side: Made from wheat, which is completely unsafe and hazardous for celiacs and folks with severe gluten allergies. If you need a tortilla, be sure that you request their corn tortillas (confirm ‘corn’ when you’re ordering).
Now, for the cleanest salad, remember to ask for your greens first, and then have the server or kitchen staff switch out to fresh gloves and use clean scoops for the topping and filling. 🍅🧀
I’d also consider skipping the Queso Blanco, or ask for it to be served in a separate cup to help minimize the cross-contamination, especially if you’re highly allergic to gluten and wheat. 🥣

Or, if pure salads aren’t your thing, you could now fold your favorites into a crispy corn tortilla to create a Chipotle gluten-free taco, though remember to skip the flour tortilla! 🌮🌾👉🌽

Just so we can learn what you ought to avoid ordering the next time you skim past the Chipotle gluten-free menu, let’s check out each filling and topping:
Proteins: All meats and Sofritas (Chipotle Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas) are gluten-free by recipe, but they’re cooked on shared equipment, so remember to request fresh utensils and gloves to minimize cross-contamination.
Veggie (Fajita Vegetables): Sautéed peppers & onions in oil and citrus, with no natural gluten ingredients.
Crispy Corn: Made from 100% corn masa, which is gluten-free by recipe, though it’s fried in shared fryer oil, which might’ve been used for gluten-containing menu items.
Soft Flour: This is made from enriched wheat flour, so avoid it completely if you’re a celiac or if you have severe gluten allergies and intolerances, or if you’re trying to maintain a strict gluten-free diet.
Grains & Beans: White rice, brown rice, black beans, pinto beans, and they’re also seasoned naturally, with no wheat or gluten in sight.
Salsas & Toppings: Fresh Tomato, Roasted Chili-Corn, Tomatillo-Green, Tomatillo-Red, Sour Cream, Cheese, Romaine, Guacamole, and they’re gluten-free ingredients, though the ladles and scoops are shared, which might pose a cross-contamination risk.
Queso Blanco: Corn-starch–thickened cheese dip, and the ingredients contain no wheat, but some dispenser cross-contact risk is possible.
Chips & Combos: Twice-fried corn tortilla chips, and they’re gluten-free by recipe, but as with earlier, they share fryers and use shared fryer oil, but it should be safe with salsas or guac.
Sides & Large Sides: Cups of guac, queso, or salsas, and they’re all made from gluten-free ingredients, though they are prepped on a shared line.
Tortilla on the Side: Only the corn tortillas are safe, while the flour tortillas contain gluten, so bear that in mind while you’re ordering.
As always, make sure you ask for the crispy corn tacos only, and you could also have the server change gloves and use fresh scoops for all the fillings to keep each taco as safe as possible! 🚫
Kid’s Quesadilla
Just like the adult-sized quesadillas, the Chipotle gluten-free kids’ quesadilla option does have a lot of restrictions, as these quesadillas are made with a soft wheat flour tortilla. 🌮🌯🥙
This makes almost the entire kids’ quesadilla menu practically unsafe for celiacs or people with severe gluten allergies, but you can order the fillings and sides separately to build a safe meal.

✅ Carnitas
✅ Guacamole
✅ Sofritas
✅ Cheese Only
✅ Soft Flour Tortilla

✅ Brown Rice
✅ Black Beans
✅ Pinto Beans
✅ Kid’s Chips
✅ Kid’s Fruit
For comparison, let’s check out these kids’ quesadillas to see how they compare against all the adult-sized Chipotle gluten-free quesadilla options:
Kid’s Quesadilla (any filling): These are wrapped in a soft flour tortilla, which contains wheat, so avoid them entirely for a gluten-free experience, either as a celiac or anyone here with any severe gluten allergy.
Proteins (Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas, Cheese): All of them are gluten-free by recipe, and they could also be served on their own, without the wheat-flour tortilla.
Guacamole: Fresh avocado mix served in a single-use cup, and has only gluten-free ingredients, but they’re then scooped on a shared line, posing a slight risk of contamination with gluten.
Rice & Beans (White Rice, Brown Rice, Black Beans, Pinto Beans): Seasoned naturally without wheat, which are also gluten-free.
Kid’s Chips: Plain corn tortilla chips, which are gluten-free by recipe, though they’re then fried in shared fryer oil, which might’ve been used for frying other gluten-containing items.
Kid’s Fruit: Apple slices, which are basically just fresh fruit, and they’re naturally gluten-free.
The best gluten-free alternative to the kids’ quesadillas is to instead order a kid’s ‘bowl’, where you can choose one protein, rice or beans, and guac or fruit on the side, for a safe meal! 🥗
Kid’s Build Your Own
For a slightly different take on the kids’ quesadillas, these Chipotle gluten-free build-your-own meals allow your kids to pick their favorites, though skip the soft flour tortillas to be safe! 🌮

Let’s break these apart to see how they compare against the other meals here in our Chipotle gluten-free guide:
Proteins (Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, Sofritas): These are seasoned and cooked without wheat, so they are naturally gluten-free by recipe but ask for fresh scoops and gloves if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.
Guacamole: Fresh avocado, lime, onion, and cilantro, which are gluten-free, though they are scooped from a shared container, posing a slight risk of cross-contamination.
Queso Blanco: Corn-starch–thickened cheese dip, and the ingredients are gluten-free, but the dispenser cross-contact risks are worth bearing in mind.
Soft Flour (2): Made with wheat flour, so make sure you avoid this if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly allergic and are intolerant to gluten or wheat.
Crispy Corn (2): 100% corn masa, which is gluten-free by recipe, but be on the lookout, as it’s fried in shared fryer oil, which might’ve been used for gluten-containing items.
Rice & Beans: White rice, brown rice, black beans, and pinto beans, and these are seasoned naturally without any wheat or gluten.
Salsas: Fresh Tomato, Roasted Chili-Corn, Tomatillo-Green, Tomatillo-Red, which are all veggie-based, and gluten-free by recipe, though the ladles share sauce wells.
Dairy & Veg: Sour cream, cheese, and romaine lettuce, with no gluten ingredients, either.
Kid’s Chips & Fruit: Plain corn tortilla chips and apple slices, and they’re both naturally gluten-free.
Again, make sure you skip the flour tortillas, and either choose the corn tortillas or none at all, and then pack your choice of proteins, rice, beans, and toppings into a large bowl. 🥗🍚🍲
Moreover, if you’re a strict celiac or if you have severe gluten allergies and intolerances, you’d probably want to discard the Queso Blanco as well, due to possible cross-contamination. ⛔
Chips & Sides
If you want to complement your main dish with crunchy add-ons and shareable sides, there’s a decent selection of Chipotle gluten-free chips and sides, and most of them are gluten-free! 🍅

❌ Tortilla on the Side
To compare these against the other Chipotle gluten-free menu items here, let’s check out these chips and sides:
Chips: Twice-cooked corn tortilla chips, and these are gluten-free by recipe, but they’re fried in shared fryer oil with other tortilla products, including the wheat ones, so be careful!
Chips & Guacamole (any size): All-guac combos are gluten-free ingredients, though the guac is scooped from a shared container, so ask for a fresh scoop to be on the safe side.
Chips & Salsa (any variety): Fresh Tomato, Roasted Chili-Corn, Tomatillo-Green, and Tomatillo-Red Salsas, and each is veggie-based and gluten-free, but the ladles share sauce wells.
Chips & Queso Blanco (any size): Queso is thickened with corn starch, and the ingredients are gluten-free too, though dispenser cross-contact risks are possible.
Sides of Guacamole (any size): Single-use cups of fresh avocado dip, and it’s also gluten-free by recipe, but they’re scooped on a shared prep line, with a slight risk of cross-contamination.
Side of Queso Blanco (small): Queso ingredients contain no wheat, but the pump head is shared, so consider ordering in its own cup to minimize the risks of picking up trace gluten.
Tortilla on the Side: Typically, a flour tortilla, contains wheat and is unsafe. If you need a tortilla, confirm and order the corn tortillas instead, which are generally safe for celiacs.
Again, though, while most of these chips and sides are naturally gluten-free, you’d want to be careful with shared prep stations and shared fryer oil, with moderate cross-contact risk. 🌮
If you’re very sensitive to wheat and gluten, I’d also suggest asking for fresh scoops and clean gloves, and maybe even skip the Queso Blanco, as it’s scooped from shared dispensers. 🍲
Drinks
Nonetheless, as with most other eateries, if you need to quench your thirst, the Chipotle gluten-free beverages menu should generally be quite safe if you’re allergic to wheat and gluten. 🥤

Let’s see what each beverage is made of, and see if they’re really a good choice for our Chipotle gluten-free shortlist:
Organic Watermelon Limeade / Organic Lemonade / Tractor Organic Lemonade: These are fresh-pressed fruit juices sweetened with cane sugar, with no gluten ingredients, though the dispenser handles other syrups.
Organic Mandarin Agua Fresca / Organic Berry Agua Fresca: Fruit-based Aguas frescas made with pure fruit, water, and sugar, which are gluten-free by recipe, but they are served out of shared dispensers, with possible cross-contamination.
Fountain Drinks (Coke, Diet Coke, etc.) / Mexican Coca-Cola / Mexican Sprite / Coke Zero: Standard sodas, with no gluten ingredients, but the fountain nozzles share space with other drink stations.
Topo Chico Mineral Water / Open Water Still: Bottled waters, and it’s nothing but just water, which is naturally gluten-free.
Poppi Orange / Poppi Strawberry Lemon: Pre-bottled probiotic sodas sweetened with fruit, with no gluten ingredients, and they’re also factory-sealed.
Blackberry IZZE / Grapefruit IZZE: Sparkling fruit juices in bottles, with gluten-free ingredients, and they come in factory-sealed bottles.
Apple Juice / Organic Apple Juice: 100% pure apple juice, with no gluten, and they’re served in single-serve cartons or bottles.
Organic Chocolate Milk / Organic Milk: Dairy milks, plain or chocolate, without any gluten ingredients.
16 fl oz Soda / Iced Tea: Bottled soda or iced tea, which are gluten-free by recipe, and since they’re pre-bottled, this means that there’s little to no cross-contact.
If you want to minimize your cross-contact risks down to zero, I’d recommend ordering bottled or factory-sealed drinks if you’re concerned about shared dispensers or ice scoops. 🧊🥤❄️
To Sum Up
Overall, the Chipotle gluten-free menu is quite impressive, with nearly all of their toppings and fillings made friendly to celiacs and anyone who’s allergic or intolerant to gluten! 🥙🌯🌮
There are very few asterisks here, besides the usual cross-contamination risks that occur while your meals are being prepped, cooked, and handled, so it’s worth being a bit cautious there!
Otherwise, there are, of course, Chipotle’s wheat-flour-based tortilla and burrito wraps, which you could otherwise easily avoid by swapping them out for the wheat-free crispy corn tortillas. 🌾
Aside from that, some of the fillings and sauces – such as the Queso Blanco – may feature a bit more cross-contamination than other toppings, but generally, most of them are quite safe. 🍲
All in all, I’d 100% visit and check out the Chipotle gluten-free menu again, and if you’re just as down bad for Mexican food as I am, Chipotle offers an awesome selection of celiac-safe meals!

Frequently Asked Questions
While I was working through creating this extensive Chipotle gluten-free guide, I’ve been asked some pretty interesting questions, which I thought I’d try and answer here:
Does Chipotle offer a gluten-free menu?
Yes! Every single ingredient, filling, and topping, except for their flour tortillas, is gluten-free by recipe. You could build burrito bowls, salads, and crispy corn tacos, and order any proteins, rice, beans, salsas, and toppings without worry, aside from the typical cross-contamination risks.
Are Chipotle’s tortilla chips and sides gluten-free?
Yes! The crispy corn tortilla chips are made from 100% corn masa, but they are fried in shared fryer oil, so while it’s gluten-free by recipe, there might be some cross-contamination risk that you ought to take into account. The guacamole, all four salsas, sour cream, cheese, and Queso Blanco contain no wheat ingredients (though the Queso comes from a shared dispenser).
Can I get a gluten-free tortilla at Chipotle?
Well, it depends on which tortilla you choose! Chipotle’s soft tortillas and the double-wrap use enriched wheat flour, and they’re completely unsafe for celiacs, as well as anyone who may be allergic or intolerant to gluten. Only the crispy corn tortillas are properly gluten-free, but make sure to confirm that you’re ordering the ‘crispy corn’ to be super-safe.
Which Chipotle proteins and bowls are safe for celiacs?
All of their proteins – the Chipotle Honey Chicken, Chicken, Steak, Barbacoa, Carnitas, and the Sofritas – are naturally gluten-free by recipe. As such, you can enjoy any Burrito Bowl, Lifestyle Bowl, or Salad variety by skipping the flour tortilla (swap it out for the corn tortilla if you have the option), without having to worry about wheat or gluten!
How can I minimize gluten cross-contact at Chipotle?
First off, make sure you order a bowl or a corn taco, not a wheat-flour tortilla-wrapped burrito, and ask your server and kitchen staff to change out to clean gloves and use fresh scoops before preparing your order. There are a couple of other precautions that you can take, like asking for your fillings and toppings to be scooped after any tortillas have been handled.
