What to serve with Gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookies?
With a Beverage: Pair them with a glass of milk (dairy or non-dairy), coffee, or tea for a classic combination that complements the sweetness and texture of the cookies.
Warm with Extras: Serve the cookies slightly warm, either fresh out of the oven or reheated briefly, to enjoy the melty chocolate chips. You can add a sprinkle of sea salt on top for a gourmet touch or serve with a scoop of dairy-free or regular vanilla ice cream for a dessert treat.
As part of a Dessert Plate: Arrange gluten-free chocolate chip cookies alongside fresh fruit, nuts, or a small bowl of dipping chocolate or caramel sauce for a more elaborate presentation.
Snack or Party Platter: Include them in a gluten-free dessert platter with other gluten-free treats, making sure to label them clearly for guests with dietary restrictions.

Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Tips
Use a mix of fats for better texture
Try combining butter with a bit of shortening or oil rather than just butter alone. This helps the dough hold together better and stops your cookies from spreading too much. A good organic palm oil shortening works wonders here.
Chill the dough, always
Pop your cookie dough in the fridge for at least a few hours, ideally overnight. This step is key for thick, chewy cookies and lets the gluten-free flour hydrate properly, improving texture and flavour.
Brown the butter for extra flavour
Melting and browning the butter before mixing it in gives your cookies a lovely nutty, caramel-like depth that’s just irresistible.
Don’t skip the parchment paper
Line your baking trays with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make clean-up a doddle. Plus, it helps your cookies bake evenly without getting greasy bottoms.
Use room temperature ingredients
Make sure your butter, eggs, and any other dairy are at room temperature before mixing. This helps everything blend smoothly and gives you a better dough consistency.
Add a little cream cheese for chewiness
A small amount of cream cheese in the dough can smooth out any gritty texture gluten-free flours sometimes have and make your cookies wonderfully chewy.
Don’t be shy with the chocolate chips
Add plenty of chocolate chips and even press a few extra on top before baking for that gorgeous melty chocolate look and taste.
Keep an eye on baking time and temperature
Bake at around 350°F (175°C) for about 11-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden but the centres still look a bit soft. They’ll firm up as they cool, so don’t overbake.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are gluten-free chocolate chip cookies just like regular ones?
Surprisingly, yes! The method is pretty much the same as regular cookies, but letting the dough rest in the fridge is key to getting the texture just right because the gluten-free flour needs time to hydrate properly.
Do I need to chill the dough before baking?
Absolutely! Chilling the dough for at least a few hours, or even overnight, really helps develop flavour and gives you thicker, chewier cookies.
Can I make these cookies dairy-free as well?
Definitely, you can swap butter for dairy-free margarine or vegan butter, and choose dairy-free chocolate chips to keep them suitable for dairy-sensitive folks.
What kind of gluten-free flour should I use?
There are lots of blends out there, but it’s best to pick one that already contains xanthan gum or add it yourself. Some popular options include blends with rice, potato, or oat flour. Different blends can affect the texture, so a bit of experimenting might be needed.
Do gluten-free cookies bake differently?
They can! Baking times might be a little shorter or longer depending on your oven and the flour blend you use. Keep an eye on them—cookies are done when the edges are golden but the centres still look soft.
