No-Fuss Gluten-Free Texas Roadhouse Menu Guide For 2025
With hearty steaks of all shapes and sizes, our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse guide will look through their huge menu to see what is celiac-safe.
Of all the celiac-friendly restaurants that I’ve been to in over 20 years of being a celiac, steakhouses are often the most challenging and the toughest to parse through. 🥩
On paper, beef should be gluten-free, but once you smother it with a diverse variety of sauces or plop it alongside countless different sides, it might not always be safe anymore. 🔥
Texas Roadhouse is no different, from their buttery rolls to gravy-smothered sides, as well as hand-cut steaks, grilled chicken, crisp salads, and more mouth-watering dishes.
If you’re a celiac, there is good and bad news if you plan on dining out at Texas Roadhouse. So, bad news first… A huge chunk of their menu isn’t safe for celiacs and isn’t gluten-free. 🌾
But, the good news… There is a gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu (well, technically, ‘gluten-friendly’), and while it’s a small menu, you can still find a decent selection of dishes.
So, let’s take a closer look at this gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu and take a peek at what is and isn’t safe for celiacs, and which ones you could customize to make it safe! 🍖

Disclaimer
Again, though, I should make it clear that the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu is actually ‘gluten-friendly’, just to be extra, extra safe, especially if you’re a celiac. ❗
In simple terms, while these gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu items might not contain any wheat or gluten in the ingredients or recipe, they’re still not 100% gluten-free. 🌾🍞
All of their dishes are prepared in shared kitchens and prep stations, and shared grills, fryers, and utensils, which also handle the worst enemies among celiacs – wheat, barley, and rye.
On the bright side, their ‘gluten-friendly’ menu items may meet the FDA’s <20 ppm threshold for gluten by recipe and ingredients, though cross-contamination is a pretty serious risk. 😷
At every single step, from the grill to the salad bowls, your meals will likely come into contact with wheat and gluten, so if you have celiac disease or a severe gluten allergy, here’s my tip:
- Be sure you let the server and the kitchen staff know that you are a celiac and/or have a severe gluten allergy.
- See if you could ask them for fresh, clean gloves, using separate utensils, and clean down or use a fresh prep area to reduce cross-contact.
- Also, remember to keep yourself up-to-date with the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, or their nutrition and allergen guides.
Texas Roadhouse Allergen Policy (Gluten-Free)
Ah, and speaking of, the official Texas Roadhouse menu is a gold mine of information if you’re a celiac, have any other allergies, or just want to learn how many calories you’re eating! ✍
First up, you should visit the Texas Roadhouse Nutrition Portal, where you’ll find one of three other cool pages to learn more about nutrition and allergens with the rest of their menu:
- There’s their Nutrition Calculator page, where you can pick and choose individual menu items, or add several of them into an ‘order’, and build your meal. With a bit of customization, if you want to, the calculator will calculate and tally the nutritional stats for your entire order.
- You will also find their Interactive Nutrition Menu, where you can either search or look up the entire Texas Roadhouse menu, and from there, you can see a breakdown of nutrition for each and every dish, including calories, fat, cholesterol, carbs, sugar, protein, fiber, and lots more.
- Last but not least, and made for celiacs (or if you have any other allergies), their Special Diets Wizard is pretty awesome. All you need to do is pick which allergen(s) you are allergic to and want to avoid, and you can filter out the menu to see which dishes have those allergens.
With that Special Diets Wizard tool, you could even search up individual menu items to see if they contain any specific allergens, and for celiacs, you need to watch out for the Texas Roadhouse menu items that contain ‘wheat’, which naturally contains gluten.
Of course, if you’re allergic to something else, you could also tick the other allergens here (i.e., milk, eggs, nuts, fish, soy, etc.) to filter out the menu. From there, pay attention to menu items marked with 🛑, which contain those allergens, or 🟢, which don’t have those allergens.
Additionally, the Texas Roadhouse website also has a PDF file that celiacs will find useful: their ‘Gluten-Friendly Suggestions’ menu. That PDF file does not have many dishes, but at least it has a few celiac-friendly dishes, so remember to bookmark this for later.
Just For Starters
To start off, we fittingly have the ‘Just For Starters’ part of the otherwise gigantic gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu. Unfortunately, this section is 100% unsafe for celiacs. 🍟🍠🍤
Most of these shareable appetizers are either battered or breaded, making them completely off-limits for celiacs, who naturally have huge traces of wheat and gluten. 🍞🌾
❌ Cactus Blossom
❌ Fried Pickles
❌ Rattlesnake Bites
❌ Tater Skins
❌ Grilled Shrimp Appetizer
❌ Boneless Buffalo Wings
❌ Cheese Fries
❌ Killer Ribs
❌ Texas Red Chili
❌ Combo Appetizer
So, let’s break down these appetizers to see why they didn’t make it into the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu:
Cactus Blossom: A huge Texas-sized onion, battered in wheat flour and deep-fried, so it ought to be totally unsafe for celiacs, owing to that batter.
Fried Pickles: Pickle chips coated in a wheat-flour batter and fried with other breaded items; avoid this completely if you’re a celiac.
Rattlesnake Bites: Jalapeño and jack cheese morsels dipped in wheat batter and fried, which should also be avoided for celiacs.
Tater Skins: Potato shells topped with cheddar and bacon, served with sour cream. The potato itself is gluten-free, but the skins are cooked in shared oil, so there’s a high cross-contact risk.
Grilled Shrimp Appetizer: Shrimp tossed in lemon-pepper butter, which should be free of wheat, but they’re then served on toasted bread, which does contain wheat and gluten.
Boneless Buffalo Wings: White meat tenders breaded with wheat flour and fried, so it’s unsafe for celiacs or anyone with a severe gluten allergy, 100%!
Cheese Fries: Steak fries topped with cheddar and bacon, and they’re gluten-friendly by recipe and ingredients, but the fries share fryers with battered items, so watch for cross-contact.
Killer Ribs: The ribs themselves are gluten-free, but they come with steak fries that are cooked in shared fryer oil, so there’s a huge risk of cross-contact.
Texas Red Chili: Made from scratch without wheat ingredients, yet they’re usually ladled from shared kettles, so once again, there’s a huge risk of contamination.
Combo Appetizer: A trio of boneless wings, rattlesnake bites, and tater skins. Since two of the components here contain wheat, the entire platter is unsafe.
I should mention that there are some variations of these appetizers here that are a part of the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, such as the grilled shrimp, which omits all those gluten or wheat-containing sides and items, thus making it friendlier and safer for celiacs. 🍤
So, while I will mark it as hazardous for celiacs here, in the Texas Roadhouse appetizers menu, if you look around and read up their Gluten-Friendly Menu, which I’ve mentioned earlier, you’d be able to find at least some safe selections that won’t take you straight to the ER! 🏥
Hand-Cut Steaks
Now we get to the most recognizable and iconic bit of the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, their Hand-Cut Steaks, of which you’ll be surprised to see that most are safe! 🥩🍖🔥
Texas Roadhouse prides itself on simple, high-quality cuts that are naturally gluten-free, though remember that cross-contamination in the kitchen is worth being careful about. 👩🍳
✅ Hand-Cut Sirloin
✅ New York Strip
✅ Dallas Filet
✅ Ft. Worth Ribeye
✅ Bone-In Ribeye
⚠️ Road Kill
⚠️ Steak Kabob
❌ Prime Rib
⚠️ Filet Medallions
✅ Porterhouse T-Bone
Now, let’s take apart these steaks to see if there’s anything about them that is worth being cautious about, in the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu:
Hand-Cut Sirloin: Lean, juicy sirloin cut, with no gluten or wheat in the steak or the seasoning. Just confirm that no marinade or butter is added to make it fully gluten-free.
New York Strip: Tender strip steak with a beefy flavor, and it is also naturally free of gluten or wheat ingredients, but once again, be sure to ask for no compound butter or seasoning mix.
Dallas Filet: Their most tender cut, lean and buttery, and it’s then prepped simply with salt and pepper unless you ask otherwise, which should also be safe for celiacs.
Ft. Worth Ribeye: Marbled ribeye, juicy and flavorful. Made with just salt and pepper, and it’s also free of gluten and wheat by recipe and ingredients.
Bone-In Ribeye: 20 oz. ribeye served on the bone, but as with the other steaks here, the same gluten-free seasoning applies, so be sure that you order carefully.
Road Kill: Chop steak smothered with some sautéed onions, mushrooms, and Jack cheese. The toppings are gluten-free, but the onion/mushroom sauté uses butter spiked with seasonings.
Steak Kabob: Marinated steak with peppers, onions, and mushrooms served over seasoned rice. If you omit the rice (which might use a seasoning blend) for a gluten-free base, but the marinade itself can contain soy or gluten, you should proceed with caution.
Prime Rib: Slow-roasted ribeye in a seasoned marinade that contains wheat, making this the only steak on the menu here that’s completely unsafe by recipe.
Filet Medallions: Three small filets topped with Peppercorn or Portobello Mushroom sauce. The medallions themselves are gluten-free, but both sauces may contain flour or other thickeners.
Porterhouse T-Bone: Combines filet and strip in one 23 oz. steak. There’s no hidden gluten, but avoid any sauces or seasonings that may contain it.
If you want to make your Texas Roadhouse steaks absolutely gluten-free, especially if you are super-sensitive to gluten, remember to order them with no butter or sauce, and that the steak you’ve just ordered is cooked on a clean portion of the grill to prevent cross-contact risks. 🥩
Moreover, like I mentioned earlier with their appetizers, there are other variations of some of these steaks that are included in the official gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu. These ought to be even safer still, so be sure to check out their website for the full gluten-free menu. ✅
Fall-Off-The-Bone-Ribs
If you need some meats that quite literally fall off the bone with every single bite, then there’s an entire menu dedicated just for this – Texas Roadhouse’s ‘Fall-Off-The-Bone-Ribs’. 🍖🦴
The ribs here in this gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu are slow-cooked with their iconic and signature BBQ sauce and spices, and best of all, they’re also gluten-free and celiac-safe!
✅ ½ Slab Ribs
✅ Full Slab Ribs
For a more in-depth look at the complete gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, let’s now take a closer peek at these ribs:
½ Slab Ribs: Pork ribs slow-cooked with their signature BBQ sauce. The meat is gluten-free, but the sauce and shared basting brushes do pose a bit of cross-contamination risk.
Full Slab Ribs: It’s the same preparation as the half slab, and equally, it’s gluten-free meat, but the basting sauce and shared grill surfaces might contain traces of wheat.
To be clear, while these ribs don’t contain wheat by recipe or ingredient, you should be careful with the BBQ sauce (which may contain traces of wheat) and the grill. I’m going to mark these as safe, even for regular celiacs, but if you’re super-sensitive, do approach with caution. 🥩
Though if you want to enjoy ribs, but made a lot safer for celiacs, there are a couple of ribs in the official gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, including their regular ribs, and except for the Prime Rib, and with the right gluten-free sides, these should be quite safe for celiacs. 🥗🥔
Texas Size Combos
If you have a huge, Texas-sized appetite, there’s a pretty large selection of combo meals in the gluten-free Texas Road menu, and most of them are relatively safe for celiacs. 🥩🍖🥓🍗
These combos pair your favorite steak or chicken critters with ribs or grilled shrimp, though be warned that there might be risks of cross-contamination, especially if you’re sensitive. 🍤
✅ Grilled BBQ Chicken & Ribs
✅ Grilled BBQ Chicken & Sirloin 6oz
❌ Chicken Critters & Ribs
❌ Chicken Critters & Sirloin 6oz
✅ Sirloin & Ribs
❌ Sirloin & Grilled Shrimp
✅ Ribeye 12oz & Ribs
❌ Ribeye 12oz & Grilled Shrimp
✅ Filet 6oz & Ribs
❌ Filet 6oz & Grilled Shrimp
To see why some of these aren’t a part of my gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist, let’s look at each combo in more detail:
Grilled BBQ Chicken & Ribs: The grilled chicken breast is marinated in BBQ sauce, and the ribs are slow-cooked with that same sauce, and both parts are wheat-free.
Grilled BBQ Chicken & Sirloin 6oz: The chicken breast is cooked in wheat-free BBQ sauce, and the plain sirloin is naturally gluten-free, making this combo another safe choice.
Chicken Critters & Ribs: The critters are hand-breaded in a wheat flour batter, and the ribs are slathered in the BBQ sauce, so unfortunately, this isn’t safe for celiacs.
Chicken Critters & Sirloin 6oz: The breaded critters aren’t safe, but the unadorned sirloin is gluten-free by recipe. Overall, though, the combo is not celiac-safe because of the critters.
Sirloin & Ribs: The sirloin itself is gluten-free when grilled plain, and the ribs are coated in wheat-free sauce, so the platter as a whole is relatively safe for celiacs.
Sirloin & Grilled Shrimp: The sirloin is gluten-free when ordered without butter or seasonings, and the shrimp are simply grilled in garlic lemon-pepper butter, though the Texas Roadhouse allergen guide does warn that this combo contains traces of wheat.
Ribeye 12oz & Ribs: The ribeye is gluten-free by itself, and the ribs’ BBQ sauce doesn’t contain wheat, so this combo is comparatively safer versus the many other items here.
Ribeye 12oz & Grilled Shrimp: Both the ribeye and the garlic-butter shrimp, as a pair, are now marked in the Texas Roadhouse allergen guide as containing wheat, thus making it unsafe for celiacs.
Filet 6oz & Ribs: The filet is naturally gluten-free, and the ribs come with the wheat-free sauce, making the combo quite safe, but bear in mind any cross-contamination.
Filet 6oz & Grilled Shrimp: The tender filet and garlic-pepper shrimp, as a combo, have also been marked in the official allergen guide as containing traces of wheat and gluten.
Pro tip: If you want to keep cross-contact down to a minimum, you could order sauces (like the BBQ sauce) separately, on the side, and you could also apply this to the butter, too. As you are ordering, you should also remind the kitchen staff to cook on a clean portion of the grill. 🥩
Dockside Favorites
For those of you with fishier taste buds, you might find something to properly savor among the small selection of Dockside Favorites in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu. 🦐🍤
These seafood entrées offer grilled and fried options, though only one of them is gluten-free, as the others are breaded or contain traces of wheat and gluten, so it’s worth being careful!
✅ Grilled Salmon
❌ Fried Catfish
❌ Grilled Shrimp
To understand why most of these aren’t in my gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist, let’s take a peek at these seafood dishes:
Grilled Salmon: A Norwegian salmon fillet grilled simply and finished with lemon-pepper butter. There’s no wheat in the fish or butter, but do confirm that it’s cooked on a clean grill area.
Fried Catfish: Farm-raised catfish fillets dipped in southern cornmeal breading and fried. That cornmeal coating mix contains wheat flour, making this totally unsafe for celiacs.
Grilled Shrimp: Large shrimp seasoned and grilled, then drizzled with some garlic lemon-pepper butter over seasoned rice. The shrimp and butter are gluten-free and wheat-free, but the rice is marked as containing wheat in the official allergen charts, so celiacs ought to avoid it.
If you want to be extra safe, and especially if you’re a sensitive celiac or have rather bad gluten allergies, you could ask for butter and sauces on the side in their own separate cup. Like what I mentioned earlier, too, remember to ask them to cook your meals on a clean grill area. 🔥
Chicken Specialties
Whether you’re looking for something crunchy or simple grilled poultry, Texas Roadhouse does have a pretty decent chicken selection, though half of them are unsafe for celiacs. 🍗🐔
Most of these poultry dishes are either breaded or have been slathered in gravy and sauce that are made with wheat-based thickeners, so do tread with an abundance of caution. 🌾
❌ Country Fried Chicken
❌ Chicken Critters
⚠️ Smothered Chicken
✅ Herb Crusted Chicken
✅ Grilled BBQ Chicken
❌ Portobello Mushroom Chicken
Let’s see what these poultry dishes are made of to better understand why they didn’t make it into my gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist:
Country Fried Chicken: A tender white-meat breast, hand-battered in wheat flour and fried, then topped with sausage gravy made from a wheat-based roux.
Chicken Critters: All-white meat tenders dipped in a buttermilk batter with wheat flour, then fried in shared oil, so it’s another unsafe choice for celiacs.
Smothered Chicken: A grilled, marinated breast topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and your choice of jack cheese (gluten-free) or gravy (contains wheat). If you have the option to be able to order it without the gravy, then it might be a bit safer for celiacs.
Herb Crusted Chicken: A boneless breast seasoned with a house blend of herbs (no wheat) and flame-grilled, served with a caramelized lemon. It is gluten-free by recipe and ingredients, but remember to ask for a fresh grill spot to avoid any cross-contamination.
Grilled BBQ Chicken: A ½ lb. breast basted in Texas Roadhouse’s signature BBQ sauce (wheat-free). This should also be wheat-free and gluten-free by recipe and ingredients; just get the sauce on the side and be mindful of contamination with other wheat-based items.
Portobello Mushroom Chicken: Grilled chicken topped with some portobello mushroom sauce thickened with wheat flour, so it’s unsafe for celiacs.
With only two confirmed celiac-safe and gluten-free Texas Roadhouse poultry options, you can do better with their steaks and ribs, though you might be able to find a couple more celiac-safe chicken dishes in the official gluten-friendly menu, adding to this otherwise paltry variety. 🍗
Country Dinners
Alternatively, if you’re craving some of that homestyle comfort, the Country Dinners section of our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu might be able to satisfy your hunger the best. 🥩🍖
However, only a couple of them could be made safe for celiacs, as the rest are either breaded, have been sauced with gravy, or are paired with wheat-based sides. 💔🌾🍞
❌ Country Fried Sirloin
⚠️ Grilled Pork Chops
❌ Pulled Pork Dinner
❌ Beef Tips
⚠️ Country Vegetable Plate
To understand why only a few of them fit into my gluten-free Texas Roadhouse list, here is the lowdown:
Country Fried Sirloin: Fresh-cut sirloin hand-battered in wheat flour and fried, then topped with cream gravy made from a wheat-based roux, so it’s completely unsafe for celiacs.
Grilled Pork Chops: Boneless pork chops seasoned and grilled. The pork itself is gluten-free, but that peppercorn sauce contains a flour-thickened base. You do have the option of ordering this without the peppercorn sauce to make it gluten-friendly, though.
Pulled Pork Dinner: Slow-cooked BBQ pork (the BBQ sauce is gluten-free), but it is served with toasted fresh-baked bread. While you could omit the bread for a gluten-free meal, there is so much cross-contamination in the oven that I wouldn’t order this as a celiac.
Beef Tips: Tender steak cuts smothered in brown gravy (contains wheat) with mushrooms and onions over rice or mashed potatoes, making it unsafe for celiacs or anyone with a very severe gluten allergy.
Country Vegetable Plate: Pick any four sides (no more than one salad). Most veggies (green beans, mashed potatoes, buttered corn) are gluten-free, but stuff like the seasoned rice and crouton-topped salads carries risk. So, depending on which sides you pick, this can be a pretty celiac-safe choice.
As you can see, the only two somewhat safe options here come with gigantic asterisks, and it might be worth avoiding them completely if you are a sensitive celiac. Otherwise, a few small changes, and less sensitive celiacs could possibly enjoy them somewhat safely. 🥩🍖🥗
Salads
Elsewhere in the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, if you want something fresher and green, they do have a pretty sizeable selection of salads, but there’s some sad news for celiacs. 🥗
Almost all of them come piled with croutons or breaded toppings, and only a couple of them are possible to be modified in a way that omits the crunchy bits and picks a safe dressing. 🍗
⚠️ Grilled Chicken Salad
⚠️ Grilled Salmon Salad
❌ Chicken Caesar Salad
❌ Salmon Caesar Salad
❌ Chicken Critter Salad
⚠️ Steakhouse Filet Salad
❌ House Salad
❌ Caesar Salad
So, here’s how each salad stacks up in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist, and why most of these are unsafe for celiacs:
Grilled Chicken Salad: Crisp mixed greens topped with marinated grilled chicken, jack cheese, egg, tomato, bacon, red onions, and croutons. However, you could order the ‘gluten-friendly’ version by skipping the croutons and ask for Italian or oil-and-vinegar dressing on the side.
Grilled Salmon Salad: Mixed greens with grilled salmon, jack cheese, egg, tomato, bacon, red onions, and croutons. While the basic version of this salad is unsafe for celiacs, you can, again, order the gluten-friendly version by omitting the croutons and get a safe dressing on the side.
Chicken Caesar Salad: Romaine, grilled chicken, Parmesan, croutons, and Caesar dressing. All these ingredients contain wheat or gluten, so this one’s a no-go for celiacs.
Salmon Caesar Salad: Romaine tossed with grilled salmon, Parmesan, croutons, and Caesar dressing, which is unsafe for celiacs due to the croutons and that dressing.
Chicken Critter Salad: Golden-fried, breaded chicken tenders over greens with some jack and cheddar cheeses, egg, tomato, and bacon. However, the breading makes this one unsafe.
Steakhouse Filet Salad: Greens drizzled with Italian dressing, topped with filet strips, bleu cheese crumbles, bacon, onions, tomato, as well as some croutons. Like the other two salads earlier, you can order the gluten-friendly version of this exact same salad, so bear that in mind.
House Salad: Fresh greens, cheddar, tomato, and egg with croutons, but from what I can see, you can’t omit the croutons and order it with a gluten-free dressing on the side, which could otherwise make it gluten-friendly.
Caesar Salad: Crisp romaine, Parmesan, and made-from-scratch croutons tossed with Caesar dressing, and I’d suggest skipping it entirely unless you could swap the croutons and dressing, but the cross-contact risk is high.
This is a good reminder to take a look at the official Texas Roadhouse gluten-friendly menu to see all the other gluten-friendly variations of these, otherwise celiac-unsafe, basic menu items. For example, there are a few salads here that could be modified to exclude wheat items! 🥗
Burgers & Sandwiches
Alas, if you were hoping to sample Texas Roadhouse’s burgers and handhelds, there’s a good reason why not a single one of these is a part of our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse list. 🍔
They’re piled high with classic fixings on Texas Roadhouse’s signature Texas-sized buns, and it doesn’t help that every single burger bun here is made from wheat flour bread. 🍞🥖🥐
❌ All-American Cheeseburger
❌ Bacon Cheeseburger
❌ Smokehouse Burger
❌ Pulled Pork Sandwich
❌ BBQ Chicken Sandwich
❌ Mushroom Jack Chicken Sandwich
With that out of the way, let’s break these burgers apart to see why there’s not a single burger in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist:
All-American Cheeseburger: Classic beef patty with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion on a Texas-sized wheat bun, making it unsafe for celiacs.
Bacon Cheeseburger: Two strips of crispy bacon and American cheese atop lettuce, tomato, and onion on a wheat bun, which contains gluten.
Smokehouse Burger: Sautéed mushrooms, onions, and BBQ sauce with American and Jack cheeses on a wheat bun, and both the bun and that sauce contain gluten.
Pulled Pork Sandwich: Slow-cooked BBQ pulled pork served on a wheat bun, and the bread contains wheat flour, once again.
BBQ Chicken Sandwich: Marinated grilled chicken breast basted in BBQ sauce on the same wheat bun. The bun contains gluten, and the sauce may carry some cross-contact risk.
Mushroom Jack Chicken Sandwich: Grilled chicken breast with sautéed mushrooms and some melted jack cheese on a wheat bun, so it’s unsafe due to the bun.
There is, however, one caveat to this list! Four of their burgers – All-American Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger, BBQ Chicken Sandwich, and Mushroom Jack Chicken Sandwich – are a part of the gluten-friendly menu, by omitting buns and fries, but that’s not fun, is it? 🍔🍟
Sides & Extras
For celiacs mindful of skipping on wheat and gluten when ordering, the Texas Roadhouse sides menu is halfway dangerous, though there are some safe options. 🍠🥔🌽
Some of these are naturally gluten-free, but a few of their more popular ones, like the rice and steak fries, either contain wheat or carry way too much cross-contamination. 🍚🍟
✅ Baked Potato
✅ Sweet Potato
❌ Steak Fries
⚠️ Mashed Potatoes
✅ Buttered Corn
✅ Steamed Vegetables
✅ Green Beans
⚠️ House Salad
⚠️ Caesar Salad
❌ Seasoned Rice
❌ Sauteed Onions
✅ Sauteed Mushrooms
✅ Applesauce
❌ Texas Red Chili
✅ Sidekick of Ribs
❌ Grilled Shrimp Sidekick
❌ Mac & Cheese
Here’s how these sides compare in my gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist, and why celiacs should think twice before ordering some of them:
Baked Potato: A plain, classic side that’s naturally gluten-free. You can also ask that there’s no topping, like gravy or cheese sauce, just to be extra safe, if you’re a sensitive celiac.
Sweet Potato: This one’s also naturally gluten-free. Just clarify if you want it plain or with some butter and cinnamon sugar to avoid unnecessary risks, especially contamination-wise.
Steak Fries: Unfortunately, these contain wheat according to the official allergen guide, likely because they’re fried in shared fryer oil, so it’s not safe for celiacs.
Mashed Potatoes: While many mashed potato dishes contain wheat thickeners or flour gravy components, Texas Roadhouse’s are free of wheat if you omit the gravy, at least according to their allergen guide.
Buttered Corn: Simple corn with butter, which is also free from wheat, and safe for celiacs.
Steamed Vegetables: A mix of lightly cooked veggies without gluten-containing ingredients, though you may want to confirm that they’re not cooked in shared water or pans.
Green Beans: Naturally wheat-free and a safer choice, but once again, just confirm they’re not seasoned with any sauces that contain wheat.
House Salad: Can be made gluten-free if you remove the croutons and choose a gluten-free dressing, but the default version is completely unsafe for celiacs.
Caesar Salad: Same as the above, and skip the croutons and ask about the dressing, as some Caesar dressings may contain wheat, but by default, it’s not safe for celiacs.
Seasoned Rice: While this might sound like a safe pick for celiacs, the official Texas Roadhouse allergen guide lists this as containing wheat!
Sautéed Onions: These flavorful add-ons contain wheat and should be skipped if you’re gluten-intolerant, either a celiac or if you have gluten allergies.
Sautéed Mushrooms: Unlike the onions from earlier, these ones don’t contain wheat, making them safe for celiacs, according to the allergen guide.
Applesauce: A sweet, safe option for those of you who are highly allergic to gluten, or if you have celiac disease.
Texas Red Chili: It contains wheat, so avoid this classic unless Texas Roadhouse ever offers a certified gluten-free version.
Sidekick of Ribs: The ribs themselves don’t contain wheat, but I’d advise a bit of caution with the sauces, and for cross-contamination.
Grilled Shrimp Sidekick: While shrimp on its own might seem safe, this side is served over seasoned rice, which contains wheat.
Mac & Cheese: Wheat-based pasta with cheese sauce, making it totally unsafe for gluten-free diets.
As always, when you’re ordering the sides, it’s not a bad idea to double-check with the server to confirm the ingredients, and refer to the official gluten-friendly menu for guides on how to modify some of these sides and extras to make them a bit safer for celiacs. 🧀🌶️🍄🧅
Kids & Ranger Meals
For all those young ones out there, there’s a decent selection of kids’ meals in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, though celiacs or those allergic to gluten ought to be careful! 🍔🍗
Your options here for your kids are quite limited, as most of these either contain wheat or are subject to severe cross-contamination, so remember to think twice when you’re ordering.
❌ Mini-Cheeseburgers
❌ Jr. Chicken Tenders
✅ Grilled Chicken
✅ Lil’ Dillo Steak Bites
❌ Macaroni and Cheese
❌ All-Beef Hot Dog
❌ Ranger Meal – Chicken Critters Basket
✅ Ranger Meal – Andy’s Steak
✅ Ranger Meal – Ranger Rib Basket
That said, let’s break these apart to see how they compare in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse shortlist:
Mini-Cheeseburgers: These come on wheat buns and contain cheese, making them unsuitable for a gluten-free diet or those of you who are sensitive to gluten.
Jr. Chicken Tenders: Breaded and fried, these tenders contain wheat and are not safe for those of you who are trying to avoid gluten.
Grilled Chicken: A simple, grilled chicken breast. While the chicken itself is gluten-free, ensure that you ask that it be cooked on a clean grill to avoid cross-contamination.
Lil’ Dillo Steak Bites: Bite-sized steak pieces that are naturally gluten-free. As with the grilled chicken, make sure they’re prepared separately from gluten-containing items.
Macaroni and Cheese: Made with traditional wheat pasta, this dish is not gluten-free, and a celiac ought to avoid it at all costs.
All-Beef Hot Dog: Served on a wheat bun, and the hot dog itself may contain fillers that come with traces of wheat or gluten.
Chicken Critters Basket: These are breaded and fried, containing wheat and posing a risk for cross-contamination, as well.
Andy’s Steak: A kid-sized portion of steak, which is free of wheat! Again, just make sure you confirm with the server that it is cooked without any sauces or seasonings that may contain gluten.
Ranger Rib Basket: Ribs without any breading are typically gluten-free. However, make sure you verify that the ribs are cooked separately from gluten-containing items to prevent cross-contamination.
One familiar piece of advice that I repeat again and again is making sure you let the server or the kitchen staff know that you have celiac disease. With luck, they might be extra cautious in making your meals to prevent any cross-contamination with wheat and gluten items. 🌾
Desserts
If you were thinking about ending your trip down to your local Texas Roadhouse with a sweet treat, then bad news… Their entire dessert menu is unsafe for celiacs! 🥧🍰🎂🍫
❌ Granny’s Apple Classic
❌ Strawberry Cheesecake
❌ Big Ol’ Brownie
Here’s a look at why all of these desserts didn’t make it into our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu:
Granny’s Apple Classic: This homestyle slice of apple pie features a flaky wheat-based crust, topped with vanilla ice cream and honey cinnamon caramel sauce. The pie contains wheat, milk, egg, and soy, making it unsuitable for gluten-free diets.
Strawberry Cheesecake: A classic New York-style cheesecake, topped with strawberry sauce and whipped cream. Sadly, it contains wheat, milk, egg, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts, posing multiple allergen risks, including for celiacs.
Big Ol’ Brownie: A rich chocolate brownie served warm with vanilla ice cream and some hot chocolate sauce. The brownie contains wheat, milk, egg, soy, and it may include nuts too, so that makes it unsafe for those avoiding gluten.
This isn’t hugely surprising, as most desserts at the many other restaurants and eateries that I’ve looked at and reviewed in the past are also unsafe for celiacs. Nevertheless, it is a bit of a shame, as I would’ve loved to try that brownie, but there’s no way it’s worth the risk! 🍫🍪
Beverages, Margaritas, & Cocktails
But hey, there’s at least some solace to be found in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, in that all of the many drinks here, including the margaritas and cocktails, are celiac-safe!
Now, do remember that while many of these drinks are naturally gluten-free, it’s important to be wary of cross-contamination during the prep. 🥤🍸🍹🍷

Just to make doubly sure that these drinks belong in our gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, here’s what each one is made of:
20 oz Fountain Drinks: A selection of classic soft drinks served in a 20 oz cup. These are typically gluten-free, but always confirm with your server to make sure there’s no cross-contact.
20 oz Lemonade: Refreshing lemonade served in a 20 oz cup. Again, this is generally free of any gluten, besides the cross-contact risks.
20 oz Iced Tea: Classic iced tea served in a 20 oz cup, which is typically gluten-free.
20 oz Sweet Tea: Sweetened iced tea served in a 20 oz cup, and it’s usually gluten-free.
Bottled Water: Standard bottled water which is gluten-free and wheat-free.
Mix & Match Tea or Lemonade: A combination of tea and lemonade, and it’s generally gluten-free.
House Rocks Margarita: A signature margarita made with Dorado Gold Tequila and fresh margarita sour mix. The mix is made with water, sugar, lime juice, lemon juice, citric acid, agave syrup, natural flavor, sodium benzoate, and sodium metabisulfite, which are free of gluten.
House Frozen Margarita: Similar to the House Rocks Margarita, but served frozen. It contains the same gluten-free ingredients, too.
The Legend Margarita: A blend of Patrón Silver, Patrón Reposado, and Patrón Añejo with Grand Marnier, shaken with signature margarita sour, and served with black lava salt. The ingredients are typically gluten-free.
Fruity Margarita (Strawberry or Raspberry): House Margarita blended with strawberry or raspberry flavors. The fruit purees are generally gluten-free, as well.
Mango Margarita: House Margarita blended with mango puree and garnished with Tajin chili lime salt. The mango puree is typically gluten-free, but verify that the Tajin seasoning is free of gluten, too.
Hurricane Margarita: A mix of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, grenadine, orange, and pineapple juices blended with house margarita. The ingredients are generally gluten-free, making this safe for celiacs.
Sangria Margarita: House Margarita swirled with Sangria Red. Both components are typically gluten-free, which makes them safe for celiacs.
Cactus Water: Espolón Reposado Tequila, club soda, and fresh limes with a Tajin rim. It’s also available with mango! The ingredients are generally gluten-free, but once again, confirm the Tajin seasoning.
Tito’s & Soda: Tito’s Vodka mixed with club soda and a lime. So far as I’ve checked, the Tito’s Vodka is gluten-free.
Porch Rocker: Deep Eddy Lemon, Monin blackberry syrup, and club soda with a lemon twist. It’s also available with strawberry, and the ingredients are typically gluten-free.
Old Fashioned: Maker’s Mark Bourbon stirred with bitters and house Old Fashioned mix. Now, bourbon is generally considered gluten-free, but do double-check the ingredients.
Gin Blossom: Tanqueray Gin mixed with Minute Maid Lemonade, strawberry puree, and club soda. As with the other drinks here, the ingredients are usually gluten-free.
Long Island Iced Tea (L.I.T.): Vodka, gin, and rum mixed with sweet and sour, triple sec, and a splash of Coca-Cola, all of which are typically gluten-free.
Top Shelf L.I.T.: Wheatley Vodka, Tanqueray Gin, and Bacardi Rum mixed with sweet and sour, triple sec, and a splash of Coca-Cola, and it’s generally gluten-free, too.
Southern Whiskey L.I.T.: Jack Daniel’s, Jim Beam, Southern Comfort Black, and sweet and sour with a splash of Coca-Cola; all usually gluten-free.
Texas Peach Fuzz: Tito’s Handmade Vodka and DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps with cranberry and orange juices, and once again, these ingredients are generally gluten-free.
Island Cooler: Parrot Bay Coconut Rum, DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps blended with Minute Maid Lemonade, sweet and sour, and Monin Blue Curacao – all these ingredients are usually gluten-free.
Jamaican Cowboy: Malibu Rum, DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps, orange, and pineapple juices with a splash of house margarita. As ever, these are all gluten-free, too.
Do remember that while all of these beverages are made with gluten-free ingredients, you do need to be careful with cross-contamination and exposure to menu items that feature gluten or wheat, as it could happen during the prep process. 🥂🥛🍻
To Sum Up
Overall, the gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu isn’t nearly as disappointing as some of the eateries and restaurants that I’ve looked at recently, with a pretty modest selection! 🍖🥩🍗🥓
Their steaks and ribs menus are the noteworthy highlight for celiacs, as many of them do not contain wheat and gluten, in addition to their chicken and sides menus, too! 🍠🥔🌽
Plus, it’s nice to see that Texas Roadhouse has a dedicated gluten-friendly menu, with preset options and modifications to some of their regular menu items to make them gluten-free.
Personally, as a celiac, I’d want to be extra careful with cross-contamination in their kitchen, especially with shared grills, fryers, as well as prep and cooking stations. 🌾

Frequently Asked Questions
While putting together this gluten-free Texas Roadhouse menu, I have found a few interesting questions and queries that I thought I might try to answer here:
Does Texas Roadhouse have a gluten-free menu?
Yes! Texas Roadhouse offers a ‘Gluten-Friendly Suggestions’ (which isn’t technically the same as ‘gluten-free’) menu featuring items made without gluten-containing ingredients. However, due to the shared kitchen environment, cross-contact with gluten is something to be wary of.
Are the fried dishes at Texas Roadhouse gluten-free?
Texas Roadhouse’s fried dishes (such as their fries) are cooked in a shared fryer, thus posing a huge risk of cross-contact with gluten-containing items. Personally, as a more sensitive celiac, I’d try to avoid their fried menu items, as they’re not safe for anyone allergic to gluten.
What are some gluten-free options at Texas Roadhouse?
Most of their steaks and ribs menus are free of wheat and gluten, and you can also find a few chicken and side dishes that don’t contain wheat and gluten, too. In addition, you may also be able to order some of their burgers as gluten-friendly, with no burger bun and fries.
Are any desserts at Texas Roadhouse gluten-free?
All of the desserts at Texas Roadhouse contain wheat and gluten. For example, their Big Ol’ Brownie includes wheat, making it unsuitable for a gluten-free diet. The same goes for their other dessert items, too, which is a shame for sweet-tooth celiacs.
How does Texas Roadhouse handle cross-contact?
Texas Roadhouse operates shared kitchen and prep areas, meaning cross-contact with gluten-containing ingredients and menu items can definitely occur. They generally advise guests with specific food allergies to let their servers know, and they might take extra precautions.
