Is Greggs Gluten-Free? Everything You Need To Know
Discover all of Greggs gluten-free options in the UK. We explore the bakery chain’s efforts to cater to gluten-sensitive customers. Let’s dive in!
For those following a gluten-free diet, finding quick and convenient meal options can often feel like a treasure hunt. Greggs, a ubiquitous sight on UK high streets, may seem like an unlikely place to start.
But do they offer anything for the gluten-free consumer? With the increasing prevalence of gluten sensitivities companies need to provide more options for gluten-free items on their menus.
So, with that in mind, what is gluten free at Greggs? Sadly, if you have coeliac disease or if you’re severely allergic to gluten of any kind, the Greggs gluten free menu is pretty much non-existent!
In fact, most of their signature menu items, including their iconic sausage rolls, bakes, pastries, wraps, baguettes, sandwiches, and other hot meals, are hazardous if you’re highly intolerant to gluten.
This article breaks down the Greggs menu in February 2025, revealing the (limited) gluten-free choices available and offering guidance for those with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivities.

“Whether you need to check our sweet treats for an allergen or see that a drink fits your dietary preference, our Allergen Guide is a trusty tool with all the details you need about our menu.”

Cross-contamination
Right, having read all that, the question remains… Do Greggs do gluten free food? Well, as I mentioned earlier, most of their menu contains gluten and wheat, with few alternatives or substitutes otherwise.
While Greggs offers a few gluten-free options, the risk of cross-contamination is a significant concern for individuals with coeliac disease or severe gluten sensitivities.
The majority of Greggs’s products contain gluten, and these are prepared and displayed in close proximity to the limited gluten-free offerings.
Despite Gregg’s allergen policy, a shared bakery environment makes it difficult to guarantee that gluten-free items remain completely free from gluten exposure.
Therefore, customers with high sensitivity should exercise extreme caution and carefully consider whether Greggs is a suitable option, as cross-contamination could potentially occur at various stages of preparation and service. Always check with staff regarding preparation procedures.
So that is what Greggs says, now let us take a closer look at their menu and I am afraid it is not good news for those of us with Coeliac disease. I would say that 95% of their menu is NOT gluten-free. Take a look below. 👇
Breakfast
Breakfast Rolls
I am afraid it is a disappointing no! None of the Greggs Breakfast Rolls or Breakfast Baguettes menu items are gluten-free nor can they be made gluten-free, not off to the best start.
❌ Sausage Breakfast Roll: A savoury sausage nestled in a soft roll (Contains gluten)
❌ Bacon Breakfast Roll: Crispy bacon served in a freshly baked roll (Unfortunately, this item is not gluten-free)

Gluten-free Breakfast Items
There are however a few items that are ok for Coeliacs. Phew, thank goodness for that.
✅ Porridge: Greggs offers gluten-free porridge options, including Simply Creamy Porridge, Golden Syrup Porridge, and Apple & Cinnamon Porridge. These are safe for gluten-free customers.
✅ Fruit Pot: Apple & strawberry or melon & grape fruit pots are typically gluten-free, but it’s always best to check the specific ingredients.
Savouries & Bakes
Alas, if you were expecting to find a Greggs gluten free sausage roll and other breakfast roll options here, you’d be pretty sorely disappointed.
The savoury bakes and sausage rolls at Greggs are almost entirely off-limits for those avoiding gluten.
As of February 2025, every single bake – including the Steak Bake, Chicken Bake, Cheese & Onion Bake, and Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt – contains gluten. This is also true of the classic and Vegan sausage rolls. This leaves customers with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivities with no options within this popular Greggs category.

The sandwich and salad selections at Greggs present a significant challenge for gluten-free customers.
As of February 2025, all of their pre-made sandwiches, baguettes, and wraps contain gluten, leaving no suitable options in these categories
Similarly, pasta salads are off-limits due to their gluten-containing ingredients. This severely limits choices for a quick and convenient lunch at Greggs for anyone avoiding gluten.

❌ Mexican Chicken Wrap (Contains wheat wrap)
❌ BBQ Chicken Wrap ( Contains wheat wrap)
Sweets Treats
For those with a sweet tooth, Greggs offers very limited gluten-free options.
As of February 2025, the Caramel Crispy is the only reliably gluten-free item in this category.
All cookies, doughnuts, and most slices and pastries contain gluten, so those must be avoided.
While the fruit bag provides a naturally gluten-free option, the selection of dedicated gluten-free sweet treats remains extremely small.

To Sum Up
In short, is Greggs gluten free? That’s tough, unfortunately. While Greggs offers a limited selection of gluten-free items as of February 2025, the vast majority of their menu remains unsuitable for those with coeliac disease or significant gluten sensitivities.
The availability of naturally gluten-free options like porridge, fruit pots, and certain snacks provides some choice, but the risk of cross-contamination in a bakery environment where gluten is prevalent is a serious consideration.
Gregg’s customers needing gluten-free food should always exercise caution, check product information, and directly inquire with staff about preparation procedures.
We hope that Greggs will continue to expand its gluten-free offerings and improve procedures to minimize cross-contamination, better serving the growing demand for safe and accessible gluten-free options in the UK.
