Ultimate Jack In The Box Gluten-Free Menu Guide For 2025

Known for their late-night tacos, Jumbo Jack burgers, crispy fries, and hand-crafted shakes, let’s check out what the Jack In The Box gluten-free menu offers.

Having lived with celiac disease for the past 30 years, I can tell you firsthand that being gluten-intolerant and loving fast food is a tough combination! 🍔🍟🥪

Classic drive-thru chains have always been my favorite type of fast-food stop, but I tend to steer clear of them these days, thanks to all the sneaky sources of gluten lurking on the menu. 🚫🌾

But then there’s the iconic drive-thru: Jack In The Box. With its huge selection of burgers, tacos, breakfast sandwiches, crispy fries, and hand-spun milkshakes, it’s hard not to wonder, can it offer anything safe for celiacs like me?

jack in the box gluten-free

Well, sadly, the same could be said with Jack In The Box, too, and while you might be able to find a few menu options free of barley, rye, and wheat, most of them aren’t gluten-friendly.

So, unless you’re okay with a handful of salads, snacks, sides, or dipping sauces, it could be a good idea to just skip Jack In The Box completely as a celiac (or if yo are gluten intolerant).

To help you figure out what’s safe, our handy Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide aims to help you avoid all those dangerous gluten pitfalls. 🥗🌮

Disclaimer

Now, to be clear, whether you’re a celiac, if you’re severely allergic to gluten, are intolerant to gluten, or if you want to maintain a GF diet, dining out at Jack In The Box requires caution. ❗

Jack In The Box doesn’t operate a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, nor do they test most of their menu items and dishes to meet the FDA’s very strict <20 ppm ‘certified gluten-free‘ standard.

Moreover, most of their food and drinks are prepped on shared surfaces – griddles, fryers, and toasters, as well as prep tables, etc. – where wheat-based ingredients are being handled. 🌾

This includes wheat-based buns, batters, and taco shells, so even if you order items that don’t technically contain gluten ingredients, they might still pick up trace gluten via cross-contact.

That said, if you’re concerned about cross-contamination, you should treat our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide here as ‘gluten-friendly’ rather than being 100% certified gluten-free.

Additionally, I’d highly suggest letting your local Jack In The Box server and kitchen staff know that you have celiac disease, or are highly allergic and/or intolerant to any trace of gluten. ✍

This way, they might be able to advise you on what you should or shouldn’t order, and they’ll also be extra cautious with using fresh gloves and utensils to best minimise cross-contact.

Jack In The Box Allergen Policy (Gluten-Free)

On that note, Jack In The Box actually makes it super easy to figure out beforehand what part of their menu does and doesn’t contain any gluten, just by heading over to their website. 🌐

All you need to do then is scroll all the way down and find that tiny ‘Nutrition & Allergens’ tab to open up a separate PDF file, which you could bookmark or download for easier reference.

This PDF file is super handy, and it’s kept up-to-date, too, whenever Jack In The Box changes a supplier or ingredient, or if they update their menu to include new dishes and items. 📝🍔🌾

Here, you could read up and learn the nutritional information for each and every single Jack In The Box menu item and dish, from their burgers to their sides and beverages, as well. 📊📈

This ought to give you a good idea of how much fat, calories, cholesterol, carbs, fiber, sugar, and so on you’re getting per meal or dish, in case you’d like to keep close track of your diet.

However, as a celiac or someone who’s highly allergic to gluten, what we really want to learn more about are the allergens that each dish contains, and this PDF file has that data, too.

Jack In The Box’s nutrition and allergens PDF guide marks each menu item’s allergen a tiny bit differently compared to most other places I’ve covered, using letters instead of checkmarks.

This includes all the key allergens that you might want to avoid and filter out, such as:

  • M – Milk
  • E – Eggs
  • P – Peanuts
  • T – Tree Nuts
  • F – Fish
  • C – Crustaceans & Shellfish
  • S – Soy
  • ss – Sesame
  • W – Wheat

Of course, as a celiac, or if you’re severely allergic and/or are intolerant to gluten, what you’d really want to look out for are all those menu items that contain the letter ‘W’ (aka wheat).

This should be a great way to filter out all those Jack In The Box gluten-free menu items, which are relatively safe, and we’ll also go through that in way greater detail with our handy guide!

Jack In The Box Gluten-Free

Burgers

Of course, what better place to start off our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide than their iconic burgers, which, unfortunately, aren’t catered to celiacs or if you’re allergic to gluten. 🍔

Every burger here is served on wheat-based buns (including sourdough), so not a single one of these delectable burgers is gluten-free, either by recipe or even considering the prep, either.

❌ Bacon Double Smashed Jack
❌ Bacon & Swiss Buttery Jack
❌ Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger
❌ Cheeseburger
❌ Classic Smashed Jack
❌ Classic Buttery Jack
❌ Double Jack
❌ Hamburger
❌ Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger
❌ Jr. Jumbo Jack
❌ Jr. Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger
❌ Jumbo Jack
❌ Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger
❌ Sourdough Jack
❌ Ultimate Cheeseburger

While this might be a clear-cut conclusion, let’s break down each burger to see what these are made of, and check out why they didn’t make it into our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu:

Bacon Double Smashed Jack: Two smashed beef patties, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato & signature sauce on a sesame-seed bun, but that burger bun contains wheat.

Bacon & Swiss Buttery Jack: Two beef patties with Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato & garlic-butter spread on a buttery bun, but once again, that bun contains wheat.

Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger: Quarter-pound beef patty, American cheese, bacon, ketchup, mustard, mayo, lettuce & tomato on a toasted bun, but sadly, the bun contains wheat.

Cheeseburger: Quarter-pound beef patty, American cheese, pickles, onions, ketchup & mustard on a bun, though that wheat-based burger bun makes it completely non-gluten-free.

Classic Smashed Jack: Two smashed patties, American cheese, pickles & grilled onions on a bun, but the burger bun unqualifies it from being gluten-free, nor is it safe for celiacs.

Classic Buttery Jack: Two smashed patties with garlic-butter spread, lettuce, tomato & mayo on a buttery wheat-based bun, and you should avoid it if you’re highly allergic to gluten.

Double Jack: Two quarter-pound beef patties, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup & mustard on a bun, though that bun is absolutely hazardous if you’re a celiac.

Hamburger: Quarter-pound beef patty, pickles, onions, ketchup & mustard on a bun, but alas, the burger bun makes this a pretty bad or dangerous choice if you’re intolerant to gluten.

Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger: Smaller patty, American cheese, bacon, ketchup & mustard on a junior bun, though this smaller burger bun still contains wheat, barley, rye, and gluten aplenty.

Jr. Jumbo Jack: Smaller beef patty, lettuce, tomato & mayo on a junior bun, which you should avoid if you’re trying to maintain a gluten-free diet, even if only by choice.

Jr. Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger: Jr. Jumbo Jack with American cheese, but like pretty much every single burger here, the bun contains wheat, and it’s not safe if you’re a celiac.

Jumbo Jack: Quarter-pound patty, lettuce, tomato & mayo on a bun, and as much as I’d love to try this out myself, as a celiac, that wheat-based bun is a complete hazard for me.

Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger: Jumbo Jack with American cheese, but this simple concoction is still paired with that same gluten-filled, wheat-based bun, with no GF alternative or substitute.

Sourdough Jack: Two patties, Swiss cheese, poblano peppers & chipotle mayo on grilled sourdough, but the sourdough bread still contains huge traces of wheat and barley.

Ultimate Cheeseburger: Quarter-pound patty, two slices of American cheese, mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickles & onions on a bun, but the burger bun contains wheat.

All in all, if you’re hoping for something celiac-safe here, in the burger part of our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu, every single burger is sadly served on wheat-flour-based buns. 🍔🥪

On top of that, their beef patties, cheeses, bacon, and toppings, while they contain no gluten, are then assembled on shared grills, toasters, and prep surfaces, with cross-contact aplenty.

TL;DR, if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly sensitive to gluten, your safest bet is to skip all the burgers at your local Jack In The Box, especially with no other alternative available. 🥩🧀🥓

Chicken

Next up in our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu, we have their huge selection of poultry, but just like their burgers, all these chicken-based dishes contain traces of wheat and gluten. 🍗

❌ Chicken Fajita Pita (Whole Grain, with salsa)
❌ Chicken Fajita Pita (Whole Grain, no salsa)
❌ Chicken Nuggets (4 pc.)
❌ Chicken Nuggets (8 pc.)
❌ Chicken Sandwich
❌ Chicken Sandwich with Bacon
❌ Chicken Teriyaki Bowl
❌ Crispy Chicken Strips (3 pc.)
❌ Crispy Chicken Strips (5 pc.)
❌ Fish Sandwich (seasonal)
❌ Homestyle Ranch Chicken Club
❌ Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich
❌ Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich with Cheese
❌ Sourdough Grilled Chicken Club
❌ The Cluck Chicken Sandwich

All these chicken items contain gluten, either in the breading, including buns, pita bread, not to mention the sauces, too! Still, let’s analyze these for our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide:

Chicken Fajita Pita (Whole Grain): Grilled chicken, sautéed peppers & onions in a wheat pita, though the pita bread contains wheat, with no GF alternative or substitute available here.

Chicken Nuggets (4 pc. / 8 pc.): Breaded white-meat nuggets, deep-fried in shared oil, and the breading contains wheat flour, while the shared fryer oil also poses a huge risk to celiacs.

Chicken Sandwich / Chicken Sandwich with Bacon: Breaded chicken patty (plus bacon) on a sesame-seed bun, although the bun & breading contain wheat, so it’s unsafe for celiacs.

Chicken Teriyaki Bowl: Grilled chicken, rice, vegetables & teriyaki sauce, but the teriyaki sauce contains soy sauce with wheat, making this hazardous if you’re allergic to any gluten.

Crispy Chicken Strips (3 pc. / 5 pc.): Breaded chicken strips, deep-fried, though that breading contains wheat flour, and the shared fryer oil also poses a huge cross-contamination risk.

Fish Sandwich: Breaded fish fillet on a bun, but both the bun and the batter contain traces of wheat and gluten, making this another no-go option for folks with celiac disease.

Homestyle Ranch Chicken Club: Breaded chicken, bacon & ranch on a bun, though the bun and the breading contain wheat, as well, making this another bad choice if you’re allergic.

Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich / with Cheese: Spicy-breaded patty (plus cheese) on a bun, and the bun and the breading contain wheat, so avoid this too if you’re sensitive to gluten.

Sourdough Grilled Chicken Club: Grilled chicken, bacon & cheese on sourdough, though Jack In the Box’s signature sourdough bread contains wheat, with no GF substitute or alternative.

The Cluck Chicken Sandwich: Grilled chicken breast, mayo & veggies on a bun, though the bun contains wheat, and this sandwich is also grilled on shared surfaces, with cross-contact risks.

Aside from the inclusion of gluten-containing ingredients, most of these chicken items are then prepped on shared equipment, making cross-contamination more than likely. 🥪🍗🥓🍚

So, if you’re a celiac, and if you’re highly sensitive to gluten in any amount, it’s safer to just skip these poultry dishes completely, and look elsewhere in the Jack In The Box gluten-free menu.

Salads

Usually, salads are a relatively safe choice for celiacs or if you’re sensitive to gluten, but in our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu, most of these salads require an abundance of caution. 🥗

❌ Garden Salad with Crispy Chicken Strips
⚠️ Garden Salad with Grilled Chicken
⚠️ Side Salad
❌ Southwest Salad with Crispy Chicken Strips
⚠️ Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken
⚠️ Buttermilk Ranch Dressing
⚠️ Hidden Valley Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing
⚠️ Tri-Colored Tortilla Strips
❌ Wheat Caesar Croutons
⚠️ Creamy Southwest Dressing

It’s worth bearing in mind that all these salads and their accompanying toppings in our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide carry a huge amount of cross-contamination, so do be careful:

Garden Salad with Crispy Chicken Strips: Mixed greens, tomatoes, and cucumber topped with breaded, fried chicken strips, but the breading contains wheat, and some of these fried items are fried with shared fryer oil, with lots of cross-contamination.

Garden Salad with Grilled Chicken: Same mixed greens and veggies, but now with unbreaded grilled chicken. That recipe might be wheat-free, though the chicken is cooked on shared grill surfaces, and they’re then assembled on shared surfaces.

Side Salad: Mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumber, and while it’s naturally gluten-free by recipe, cross-contact on prep tables is still possible, so be careful if you’re highly allergic to gluten.

Southwest Salad with Crispy Chicken Strips: Greens, corn, black beans, cheese, salsa & crispy chicken, but with breaded chicken & shared fryer oil, it’s not worth the risk if you’re a celiac.

Southwest Salad with Grilled Chicken: Same base with grilled chicken, and while it has gluten-free fillings, it’s then prepped on shared equipment, with cross-contamination aplenty.

Buttermilk Ranch Dressing: Creamy ranch blend, with no wheat ingredients, but they’re then dispensed from shared pumps, with a healthy dose of cross-contamination on top of that.

Hidden Valley Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing: Oil & vinegar blend, and while it’s wheat-free by ingredient, the use of shared pumps carries a decent amount of cross-contact risk.

Tri-Colored Tortilla Strips: Corn tortilla strips, and while it’s gluten-free by recipe, it’s then fried in shared fryer oil, so you should probably avoid it if you’re highly sensitive to any gluten.

Wheat Caesar Croutons: Seasoned wheat-flour croutons, which contain gluten, and there are no gluten-free substitutes or alternatives available in the Jack In The Box gluten-free menu.

Creamy Southwest Dressing: Spiced mayo-based dressing, and while it’s wheat-free by recipe, the shared pump and other prep surfaces carry a high amount of cross-contact risk.

Also, another thing to be careful about is the fact that some of these salad dressings and their tortilla strips are dispensed from shared pumps, or they’re fried with shared fryer oil. 🌮🥣

Snacks & Sides

And, if you’re looking to complement your main dishes with something on the side, our Jack In The Box menu has a really nice selection of snacks, though a lot of them are unsafe. 🍟🧅🌶️

❌ Egg Roll (1 pc.)
❌ Egg Roll (3 pc.)
⚠️ French Fries (Small)
⚠️ French Fries (Medium)
⚠️ French Fries (Large)
❌ Panko Onion Rings
❌ Seasoned Curly Fries (Small)
❌ Seasoned Curly Fries (Medium)
❌ Seasoned Curly Fries (Large)
⚠️ Side Salad
❌ Stuffed Jalapeños (3 pc.)
❌ Stuffed Jalapeños (7 pc.)
❌ Taco, Regular (1 Taco)
❌ Taco, Tiny (13 pc.)
❌ Taco, Tiny (Sauced & Loaded)
✅ Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouch

To get a better idea of how these stack up in our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide, let’s check out what these snacks and sides are made of, and why you should be extra careful:

Egg Roll (1 pc. / 3 pc.): Cabbage, pork, and seasonings wrapped in wheat dough, and then deep-fried, which does contain wheat, not to mention the superbly high cross-contact risk.

French Fries (Small / Medium / Large): Straight-cut potatoes in 100% vegetable oil, and while they contain no wheat ingredients, they’re fried alongside battered items, so be extra careful when it comes to cross-contamination.

Panko Onion Rings: Sliced onions coated in panko breadcrumbs (wheat) and fried, though this contains traces of wheat, in addition to the shared fryer oil risk and cross-contamination.

Seasoned Curly Fries (Small / Medium / Large): Spiral potatoes tossed in seasoned coating & fried, and the coating contains wheat starch, in addition to cross-contact via a shared fryer.

Side Salad: Lettuce, tomato, carrot, and while it’s naturally gluten-free by recipe, there might be a good bit of cross-contamination, since these salads are made on shared prep tables.

Stuffed Jalapeños (3 pc. / 7 pc.): Jalapeño halves filled with cream cheese, battered in wheat flour and fried, which contains gluten, as well as the shared fryer oil contamination risk.

Taco, Regular (1 Taco) / Tiny (13 pc.) / Tiny (Sauced & Loaded): Seasoned beef in a very crispy wheat-flour taco shell, which not only contains gluten, but the high cross-contact risk will also make this a very bad choice if you’re a celiac, or if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouch: Single-serve apple purée, which is factory-sealed, and it’s also gluten-free by ingredient, with minimal cross-contact risks during the prep, too.

Most of their sides and snacks are cooked in shared fryers (with shared fryer oil), grills, as well as shared prep surfaces, so cross-contact pretty much applies to every single thing here. 🌮🥔

Breakfast

Ah, and if you’re eager to start your day with a taste of our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu, their breakfast meals are sadly out of reach for celiacs, since most of them are unsafe. 🥪🍞

❌ Bacon Breakfast Jack
❌ Breakfast Jack
❌ Classic French Toast Sticks (3 pc)
❌ Classic French Toast Sticks (6 pc)
❌ French Toast Sticks Platter w/ Bacon
❌ French Toast Sticks Platter w/ Bacon & Sausage
❌ French Toast Sticks Platter w/ Sausage
❌ Extreme Sausage Sandwich
⚠️ Hash Brown
❌ Loaded Breakfast Sandwich
❌ Meat Lovers Breakfast Burrito (w/salsa)
❌ Meat Lovers Breakfast Burrito (no salsa)
❌ Mini Pancakes (8 pc)
❌ Sausage Breakfast Jack
❌ Sausage Croissant
❌ Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich
❌ Supreme Croissant
❌ Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich

All of these breakfast items are prepped on shared griddles, toasters, and fryers, so there is a lot of cross-contact that makes them a bad choice for our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu:

Bacon Breakfast Jack / Breakfast Jack / Extreme Sausage Sandwich / Loaded Breakfast Sandwich / Sausage Breakfast Jack / Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich / Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich: All of these breakfast sandwiches are served on wheat-flour buns or sourdough, which not only contain gluten but also have a high amount of cross-contamination.

Classic French Toast Sticks (3 pc. / 6 pc.) & Platters: Sliced bread coated in egg batter (wheat) and then fried, which contains gluten, not to mention the shared fryer oil contamination risk.

Meat Lovers Breakfast Burrito (with/without salsa): Filled flour tortilla, which contains wheat, and the very high cross-contact risks make it a no-go if you’re highly sensitive to any gluten.

Mini Pancakes (8 pc): Wheat-flour batter pancakes, which contain gluten, and there are some cross-contamination risks coming from their use of shared griddles and prep surfaces.

Sausage Croissant / Supreme Croissant: Laminated wheat pastry, which does contain traces of gluten, in addition to the shared baking areas & prep cross-contamination risks.

Hash Brown: Shredded potato patty that is fried in shared oil, and while you won’t find any gluten ingredients in here by recipe, there’s still a super-high cross-contact risk at the fryer.

Hot tip: if you’re ordering the hash browns, ask if they could cook them in freshly changed oil and use clean utensils and prep areas to better minimise cross-contamination. 🥓🌭🌯🥞🥐

Jack’s Munchie Meals

Our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide also covers their special Jack’s Munchie Meals, but they might as well not exist for celiacs, as most of them contain wheat and gluten. 🥪🍔🍟

❌ Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich
❌ The Cluck Chicken Sandwich
❌ Ultimate Cheeseburger
❌ Double Jack
❌ Halfsies (a la carte)
❌ Halfsies (in Munchie Meal)
❌ Onion Rings (4 pc)
❌ Two Tacos
❌ Seasoned Curly Fries (Medium)
⚠️ French Fries (Medium)

Now, let’s check out what these Munchie Meals are made of to see why they’re a bad pick for our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide, given all the cross-contamination, too:

Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich: Breaded chicken fillet on a wheat bun with mayo and lettuce, though it contains gluten in the bun and the breading, alongside the high cross-contact risk.

The Cluck Chicken Sandwich: Grilled chicken breast on a wheat bun with mayo and lettuce, but the sandwich bun contains wheat, making it a no-go if you’re highly sensitive to any gluten.

Ultimate Cheeseburger / Double Jack: Beef patties, cheese, and toppings on a wheat bun, but the bun contains gluten, and the shared grill poses a severe cross-contamination risk.

Halfsies (a la carte / in Munchie Meal): Two mini beef-and-cheese sliders on fairly small wheat buns, though those buns contain gluten, and there’s a really high cross-contact risk.

Onion Rings (4 pc): Sliced onions coated in wheat-flour batter and fried, which contains gluten, and the shared oil poses a high risk of cross-contamination that makes it unsafe for celiacs.

Two Tacos: Seasoned beef in crispy taco shells (made with enriched flour) plus lettuce and a bit of cheese, though the taco shells contain wheat, in addition to the high cross-contact risk.

Seasoned Curly Fries (Medium): Spiral-cut potatoes are seasoned and double-fried in shared oil, which not only contains gluten ingredients, but high levels of cross-contact are possible.

French Fries (Medium): Straight-cut potatoes fried twice in shared oil, and while it contains no gluten ingredients by recipe, there’s a good risk of cross-contamination via the shared oil.

Given that all these Jack’s Munchie Meals are prepared on shared grills, fryers, and prep areas, there’s a pretty decent risk of cross-contamination that you have to be worried about. 🌮🌾

Also, if you pick the French fries, you may be able to ask them if they could fry them in freshly changed fryer oil and use clean utensils to help minimise any cross-contact, as well. 🍟🥔🍠

Kid’s Menu

For the younger ones in the crowd, there are a ton of kids’ dishes, but if your kids are celiacs, our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu doesn’t have much to offer, as most are unsafe. 🍔🍟

❌ Breakfast Jack
❌ Cheeseburger
❌ Chicken Nuggets (4 pc.)
❌ Chicken Sandwich
❌ Classic French Toast Sticks (3pc)
❌ Crispy Chicken Strips (2 pc.)
⚠️ French Fries (Kid’s)
❌ Grilled Cheese Sandwich
❌ Hamburger
❌ Seasoned Curly Fries (Kid’s)
✅ Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouch

Remember that some of these items are prepped on shared surfaces, so there’s a risk of cross-contact, but other than that, here’s what our Jack In The Box gluten-free guide has to offer:

Breakfast Jack: Egg, American cheese, and sausage patty on a wheat bun, though, as with the other buns that we looked at earlier, there’s gluten in the bun, alongside shared toaster risk.

Cheeseburger / Hamburger: Beef patty (and cheese) on a wheat bun, though the bun contains gluten, and there’s a good amount of cross-contamination risks from that shared grill.

Chicken Nuggets (4 pc.) / Crispy Chicken Strips (2 pc.): Breaded chicken fried in shared oil, but these poultry dishes contain wheat flour, and there’s a pretty high cross-contact risk.

Chicken Sandwich: Breaded chicken on a wheat bun with mayo and lettuce, but the bun and the breading itself contain gluten, in addition to the shared prep and contamination risk.

Classic French Toast Sticks (3 pc.): Dipped and coated wheat-flour batter, then fried, though it contains loads of gluten, making this 100% unsafe if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich: American cheese melted on wheat bread, though the bread contains gluten, and the shared grill contamination risks make it a hazard for any celiac.

French Fries (Kid’s): Straight-cut potatoes double-fried in shared oil, with no gluten ingredients by recipe, but there’s still a pretty decent cross-contact that you need to watch out for.

Seasoned Curly Fries (Kid’s): Spiral-cut potatoes seasoned and fried in shared oil, which sadly is listed with gluten allergens in the Jack In The Box menu, and cross-contact remains possible.

Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouch: Single-serve applesauce, with no gluten ingredients, and it’s also factory-sealed, with probably the lowest cross-contact risk of all the items here.

Again, as I mentioned earlier, if you’re ordering French fries, see if you could ask them if they can use freshly changed oil and clean tongs to minimise any cross-contamination. 🥔🍗🥪

Jack’s Deals

For a more value-oriented excursion down to your local drive-thru, our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide unfortunately doesn’t cover any of their deals and value bundles. 🙁🍔🍟

Let’s break these value-focused meals apart to see why they didn’t make it into our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide, aside from your typical cross-contact and contamination risks:

Value French Fries: Straight-cut potatoes double-fried in 100% vegetable oil. While there are no gluten ingredients by recipe, the shared fryer oil poses a pretty high cross-contact risk.

Chicken Nuggets (4 pc. / 8 pc.): Breaded chicken pieces fried in shared oil, which contains wheat flour and really high cross-contact risk, so avoid this if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Chicken Sandwich / Chicken Sandwich with Bacon: Breaded chicken patty on a sesame bun (plus some bacon), though the bun and the breading contain gluten, and there’s no doubt a high risk of cross-contamination with the use of a shared grill and fryer.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich: American cheese melted on a sesame-seed bun, but the bun contains wheat, in addition to the contamination risk that comes with using a shared grill.

Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger / Jr. Jumbo Jack / Jr. Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger / Jumbo Jack / Jumbo Jack Cheeseburger / Bacon Double Smashed Jack / Bacon & Swiss Buttery Jack / Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger / Cheeseburger / Classic Smashed Jack / Classic Buttery Jack / Double Jack / Hamburger / Sourdough Jack / Ultimate Cheeseburger: All their burgers use wheat-flour buns (and some have cheese / bacon). The bun contains gluten, and the shared grill and prep surface pose a decent risk of cross-contamination. Either way, it’s unsafe for celiacs.

Tacos, Regular (2 Tacos): Crispy taco shell made from wheat flour, filled with seasoned beef, but the taco shell contains gluten, in addition to the shared fryer contamination risks, too.

Jack Wrap – Classic Crispy / Spicy Crispy: Breaded chicken in a wheat tortilla, but the tortilla and that breading contain gluten, alongside the cross-contact risks that come with a shared fryer and grill.

Jack Wrap – Classic Grilled / Spicy Grilled: Grilled chicken in a wheat tortilla, though the tortilla contains gluten, which is made worse if you’re allergic to gluten, thanks to the shared grill.

As always, the French fries are the only safe option here, but remember to ask the kitchen staff if they’re cooked in fresh fryer oil and handled with clean tongs to reduce cross-contact. 🍟🥔

Just remember that all these dipping sauces in our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide are served from shared pumps or prep stations, with a lot of cross-contamination present:

BBQ Sauce Dip Cup: Tomato-based, sweet-smoky BBQ sauce, with no wheat in the recipe, but the use of a shared pump poses a lot of cross-contamination risks.

Buttermilk House Dipping Sauce: Creamy ranch-style sauce thickened with wheat flour, and unlike most buttermilk sauces that I’ve looked at, this one doesn’t contain gluten.

Creamy Avocado Lime Dipping Sauce: Avocado puree, lime, and mayo base, which is gluten-free by ingredients, but remember to watch out for any cross-contact.

Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo Dipping Sauce: Cayenne pepper sauce blended with butter, and it’s also gluten-free by recipe, but the shared pump has a decent bit of contamination risk.

Honey Garlic Sriracha Dip Cup: Honey, garlic, Sriracha, with no wheat, but cross-contact risks remain possible at the shared pump.

Honey Mustard Dip Cup: Mustard and honey blend, which is gluten-free by recipe, but the use of a shared sauce station poses a risk of cross-contamination.

Jack’s Good Good Dipping Cup: Special in-house fry sauce, which thankfully has a gluten-free base, but remember to watch out for any cross-contact.

Pancake Syrup: Corn syrup and flavor, which contains no gluten, and the risk of cross-contact via shared sauce stations remains relatively minimal compared to the other sauces here.

Sweet N’ Sour Dipping Sauce: Vinegar, sugar, fruit purée, which is gluten-free, but bear in mind the shared sauce pump cross-contamination risk.

Teriyaki Dipping Sauce: Soy sauce base (wheat-fermented), which does contain gluten, so be sure to avoid this if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Creamy Bacon Mayo (0.68 oz.): Mayo blended with bacon fat, which is gluten-free, but watch out for any cross-contact.

Creamy Ranch Sauce (0.61 oz.): Ranch seasoning in mayo, which is gluten-free, but the shared sauce stations pose a risk of cross-contamination.

Garlic Herb Butter (0.50 oz.): Butter with garlic & herbs, with no gluten ingredients, and the cross-contamination risks are fairly low here, too.

Ketchup (0.57 oz.) / Packet: Tomato concentrate, which is gluten-free, but the pump and the packet both feature comparatively low cross-contact risks.

Mayonnaise (0.25 oz.) / Packet: Egg & oil emulsion, which is gluten-free, and there are minimal cross-contamination risks if the packet is sealed.

Mustard (0.19 oz.) / French’s Mustard (Packet): Vinegar-seed mustard, which is gluten-free, though remember to watch out for any cross-contact at the sauce pump.

Tartar Sauce (0.78 oz.): Mayo with relish, without any gluten ingredients, but once again, the shared prep stations pose a risk of cross-contamination.

Tartar Sauce (Packet): Sealed single-serve, which is both gluten-free and it probably comes with the lowest risk of cross-contact here.

Fire Roasted Salsa (1 fl oz.): Tomato & pepper blend, which is gluten-free, but remember to watch the ladle for any cross-contamination with other gluten-containing items.

Kikkoman Soy Sauce (Packet): Traditional soy sauce, which does contain wheat, so avoid this if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly sensitive to gluten.

Grape Jelly / Strawberry Jam (Packet): Fruit preserves, which are gluten-free by recipe, and they also come sealed from the factory, for even reduced risk of cross-contamination.

Grilled Onions (0.71 oz.): Sautéed onions, which are naturally gluten-free, with only some risk of cross-contamination from the shared grill when it’s being prepped.

Gold-n-Sweet Spread (Cup): Honey-butter spread, which traditionally contains malted barley extract, which does contain gluten, but Jack In The Box’s allergen guide says otherwise.

Secret Sauce (Packet): Proprietary burger sauce, and it also doesn’t contain any traces of wheat or gluten, making this another safe choice for celiacs.

If you want to be extra safe, try ordering sauces and dips out of sealed packets (such as mayo, jam, and ketchup) and avoid any sauces that are thickened with flour, soy sauce, too. 🍅

✅ Shake, Vanilla with Whipped Topping (16 fl oz)
✅ Shake, Vanilla with Whipped Topping (24 fl oz)
✅ Shake, Vanilla with Boba & Whipped Topping (16 fl oz)

Most of the shakes and desserts in our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide are pretty safe for celiacs, or if you’re very allergic to gluten, so let’s see what sets them apart from the rest:

Chocolate Overload Cake: A dense chocolate layer cake made with wheat-flour sponge and chocolate ganache, which contains gluten by recipe, and it’s then baked on shared equipment, posing a pretty high cross-contamination risk.

Mini Churros (5 pc.): Bite-size churros dusted with cinnamon sugar, each made from a wheat-flour dough, and it’s then fried alongside other items in shared oil, making them quite unsafe for celiacs, and if you’re highly allergic to gluten.

New York Style Cheesecake: Creamy cheesecake atop a cookie-crumb crust made from wheat-based crackers, and then prepared on common prep surfaces, so it is not suitable for a gluten-free diet, and it’s especially dangerous if you’re a celiac.

Shake, Chocolate with Whipped Topping (16 fl oz): Hand-spun milkshake of vanilla ice cream blended with chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream, with no gluten ingredients, though there’s a small risk of cross-contact from shared blenders and topping nozzles.

Shake, Chocolate with Whipped Topping (24 fl oz): Same as the 16 oz version, with that super-rich chocolate syrup and ice cream base with whipped cream, which is gluten-free by recipe, but make sure you’re careful about cross-contamination.

Shake, OREO Cookie with Whipped Topping (16 fl oz): Vanilla ice cream blended with crushed Oreo cookie pieces, which contain wheat flour, making this shake unsafe for anyone trying to avoid gluten in their diet.

Shake, OREO Cookie with Whipped Topping (24 fl oz): The larger version of the Oreo cookie shake also contains wheat-based cookie bits, so it is not gluten-free, and neither is it safe for celiacs.

Shake, Strawberry with Whipped Topping (16 fl oz): Strawberry syrup and real strawberry purée blended into vanilla ice cream with whipped cream, free of any gluten ingredients, but it’s then prepared in shared blenders.

Shake, Strawberry with Whipped Topping (24 fl oz): A larger strawberry-flavour shake with the same safe ingredients, and as such, it also shares equipment that may introduce trace gluten via cross-contamination.

Shake, Vanilla with Whipped Topping (16 fl oz): Classic vanilla-flavoured ice cream shake that’s topped with whipped cream, naturally free of gluten by recipe, and with minimal cross-contact risk, too.

Shake, Vanilla with Whipped Topping (24 fl oz): The full-size vanilla shake is similarly gluten-free by ingredient, but it shares blenders and dispensers, so there’s some caution needed for any cross-contamination risks.

Shake, Vanilla with Boba & Whipped Topping (16 fl oz): Vanilla shake swirled with tapioca pearls and crowned with whipped cream. All components are gluten-free, though tapioca is prepared in shared stations.

The same cross-contamination rules apply here with these desserts and shakes, so remember to let your server know to be extra cautious when they’re handling your sweet treats. 🍧🍨

Gold Peak Fresh Brewed Iced Tea: Brewed black tea served chilled over ice, which contains no gluten ingredients. However, be sure you request a fresh ice scoop to avoid any stray crumbs from nearby gluten-containing items.

Berry Purple Daze Red Bull Infusion w/ Red Bull Energy: A blend of berry-flavoured juice and Red Bull Energy, made without wheat or gluten, and it’s then served from a sealed can and a juice dispenser, minimizing any potential cross-contact risk.

Berry Purple Daze Red Bull Infusion w/ Red Bull Sugarfree: Same berry infusion paired with Red Bull Sugarfree, which is naturally free of gluten, and it’s using sealed cans to further reduce any contamination concerns, too.

Strawberry Red Daze Red Bull Infusion w/ Red Bull Energy: Strawberry-flavoured juice that is combined with Red Bull Energy, which is also free of gluten by recipe, and it’s then served via sealed cans and dispensers.

Strawberry Red Daze Red Bull Infusion w/ Red Bull Sugarfree: Strawberry juice and Sugarfree Red Bull, with no gluten ingredients, further minimizing cross-contact thanks to factory-sealed packaging, making this a super safe pick for celiacs.

Red Bull Energy Can / Red Bull Energy Sugarfree Can: Both the standard and Sugarfree Red Bull are gluten-free sodas in tamper-evident cans, ensuring zero risk of shared-tap contamination, too.

High Mountain Arabica Coffee: Freshly brewed drip coffee using 100% Arabica beans and water, with no added gluten. Just remember to ask your server that the carafe spout is wiped clean of any pastry residue, or if it’s cross-contaminated with other gluten items.

Iced Black Coffee: Chilled brewed coffee served over ice, containing only coffee and water. Still, make sure you confirm that the ice bin and the scoop are free from bakery crumbs.

Caramel Sweet Cream Iced Coffee: Black coffee over ice with a swirl of caramel-flavoured sweet cream, which are all gluten-free by recipe, though the cream dispenser and caramel pump should be wiped between uses.

Mocha Sweet Cream Iced Coffee: Iced coffee blended with chocolate-mocha syrup and sweet cream, which is naturally free of gluten ingredients. Just make sure you request a clean pump nozzle to avoid any potential cross-contact.

Vanilla Sweet Cream Iced Coffee: Coffee over ice with vanilla-infused sweet cream, which has no gluten in the ingredients, but remember to check that the syrup pump is also kept clean.

Sweet Cream Iced Coffee with Boba: Iced coffee topped with sweet cream and tapioca pearls. While the pearls are gluten-free, they’re scooped from shared bins, so ask for a fresh scoop to minimize the risk of cross-contamination.

Milk Tea with Boba: Black tea mixed with milk and tapioca pearls, which is free of gluten by ingredients, though be sure to confirm that the boba utensils and tea brewers are cleaned of any possible gluten traces.

Minute Maid Apple Juice / Simply Orange Juice: 100% pure fruit juices in sealed cartons, which are naturally gluten-free with negligible risk of cross-contact.

Dasani Water Bottle: Factory-sealed bottled water, which is free of gluten, and it’s also ideal if you’re unsure about the other drinks here.

Milk: Plain chilled milk in sealed containers, with no gluten ingredients and a very low risk of cross-contact if poured from a clean dispenser, as well.

While all of these beverages might not contain gluten ingredients at all, just remember to be super careful with cross-contamination, especially if it’s prepped at the restaurant. 🍷🍸🍹

To Sum Up

In conclusion, Jack In The Box is just purgatory if you’re a celiac, or if you’re sensitive to gluten, given that most of their menu is completely hazardous for folks like you and me. 🌾

Nearly all of their burgers, sandwiches, breakfast items, tacos, and most of their tasty snacks, which are the #1 reasons you go to a Jack In The Box in the first place, are filled with gluten. Doh!

If you’re a celiac or if you’re highly allergic to gluten, you might be able to get away safely with some of their salads, French fries, dips, sauces, and hand-made shakes.

Nevertheless, I’d be extra careful if I were you, as there are seemingly few safeguards when it comes to cross-contamination, so gluten exposure risks are pretty high, too. 🍔🥪🍟🌮

Whether it’s shared fryer oil or prep stations, there’s so much trace gluten flying around that just to be safe, I’d probably just order a milkshake, maybe some drinks, and that’s it. 🍨🍧

In the meantime, there are other places you could visit that are celiac-safe, so make sure to stay tuned to us here at Great Without Gluten for even more celiac-friendly and gluten-free eating out guides! ✍📝

Frequently Asked Questions

While working on our Jack In The Box gluten-free menu guide, I stumbled on quite a few pretty interesting questions floating around social media, so here’s my attempt at answering them:

Does Jack In The Box offer any gluten-free menu items?

While Jack In The Box doesn’t operate a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, nor do they label items as certified gluten-free, there are a couple of menu items that contain no wheat, barley, or rye by recipe, notably some of their salads, sides, milkshakes, and their beverages menu.

Which Jack In The Box burgers can I order gluten-free?

Unfortunately, all of Jack In The Box’s burgers (including their sandwiches) are topped with a wheat-based bun, with no bun-free or ‘bun-less’ alternative or substitute available. If you ask your local Jack In The Box nicely, they might be able to prepare a special protein-style burger.

Are Jack In The Box fries and sides safe for celiacs?

Yes, but only their regular French fries. However, while these don’t technically contain wheat and gluten-based ingredients, they might be cooked in shared fryers (with shared fryer oil), so be extra careful when ordering them, especially if you’re a celiac or if you’re highly allergic.

Can I get a gluten-free breakfast at Jack In The Box?

Unfortunately, the Jack In The Box breakfast menu is a complete no-go and hazardous for us celiacs or folks with severe gluten allergies, as most of them contain wheat, or if there’s a risk of cross-contamination, with the exception of their hash browns, barring any cross-contact.

How can I minimize gluten cross-contact at Jack In The Box?

Make sure you inform your server or the kitchen staff that you’re a celiac, or if you have really serious gluten allergies, and try asking them for fresh gloves, separate cooking surfaces, clean utensils, and avoid using shared equipment to better minimize any contamination risks.
